Spooky Food Eating Contest

Spooky Food Eating Contest Coverage

The Perlious Catacombs Door Outcomes

As part of the Perilous Catacombs step in the Spooky Food Eating Contest, users explored the catacombs below Neovia by opening doors. Each door was presented with some introductory text describing what could be heard or seen, and based on this, users selected one of three options to open it. If they selected the correct answer, users were awarded a prize, but picking either incorrect answer resulted in a curse. This is a record of all of the outcome text for the doors in the step.

Kids - Luggage/Weather
Voices emanate from behind the door. They seem to be having a pleasant conversation about the price of luggage in Altador... or is it the weather on Kreludor? It's hard to hear through a thick door.
Success - Throw the door open boisterously
Swinging the door open, you find a gang of kids helping themselves to treasure. "Hi!" one says brightly. "You look a lot more alive than some of the folks we've met in here. Have some treasure! There's plenty to go around."

They seem remarkably unconcerned about the danger they're in.
Failure - Burst through the door violently
You and the Monster Hunters are amazed to find a scrappy group of kids hanging out in this room. They look ordinary... they are ordinary! Don't they know this place is dangerous? "Aw, don't make us go home," one begs you. "We're exploring! Down here, this is our time, and you can't tell us different. Oh, and watch out.

You stepped on a trapped stone in the floor. The kids shrug.
Failure - Knock politely
"You get it!" a kid calls. "It's probably another skeleton!" another kid calls back. What are kids doing in here? You open the door to find a bunch of young Neopets with treasure spilling out of their backpacks. "You might not want to stand there," one cautions you. You hear a rushing noise and—

"That's why," she adds helpfully.
Kids - Organ Music
Behind the door, elaborate organ music resonates. Surely there's no trap here. What trap would come with its own sinister theme music?
Success - Stomp your feet emphatically
A bunch of kids stream past you, screaming and shouting. Behind them, you see an organ with ghostly lights flickering above it. The young Neopets apparently thought they'd summoned a monster, and your stomping was the monster arriving to eat them all. Oops. They dropped this on their way out. You should probably hold onto it for safekeeping.
Failure - Burst through the door violently
A handful of young Neopets are standing in front of an organ made of bones. They're trying to play it, but this organ is pretty old and bones aren't the best choice of material. Kell steps forward to stop them before they release some awful curse, but one kid hits a chord and—

How is it you're always standing in the right spot at the right time?
Failure - Hum along with the cheery tune
You find a bunch of kids watching an organ play by itself. They're totally creeped out by your humming along, and before you can explain, they fire a curse at you with a wand they found somewhere.

You don't have time to ask them what they're doing here before they flee in search of treasure.
Kids - Wordless Screaming
High, wordless screaming echoes through the door. You can't tell if whatever's doing it is terrified, furious, or really excited by the latest Usuki Doll release. Chilling.
Success - Burst through the door violently
You burst in to find a gang of kids screaming and running in circles. Why is not evident. Awkwardly, you clear your throat. Corbin grabs one and asks testily, "Could you stop screaming?" It turns out that they thought you were ghosts coming to eat them. Silly kids. Ghosts don't eat people. Zombies do.

They give you an item as thanks... for not eating them. Some days, you just win.
Failure - Slip in all quiet and sneaky-like
You sneak inside to find a bunch of kids screaming excitedly. They've found a magic mirror that shows... well, you can't tell what, actually, because they caught you spying on them and promptly tossed a curse at you.

Kids with dark magic amulets. Really, if you didn't have a monster to catch, you'd round them up and send 'em home.
Failure - Offer your services as a mediator
A gang of kids is standing in the middle of the room as water gushes in from all sides. It's a trap. You're going to calm them down before they do something rash. Somehow. You just have to think of something. Ah! There's a button. You step forward and press it, and the water stops, but a curse zings toward you.

No good deed goes unpunished.
