Spooky Food Eating Contest

Spooky Food Eating Contest Coverage

The Perlious Catacombs Door Outcomes

As part of the Perilous Catacombs step in the Spooky Food Eating Contest, users explored the catacombs below Neovia by opening doors. Each door was presented with some introductory text describing what could be heard or seen, and based on this, users selected one of three options to open it. If they selected the correct answer, users were awarded a prize, but picking either incorrect answer resulted in a curse. This is a record of all of the outcome text for the doors in the step.

Globilol - Growling
The growls that you can hear through the door sound rather threatening, actually. Whatever's behind this door isn't likely to be friendly if it's already growling and hasn't even met you yet.
Success - Offer your services as a mediator
There's a floating eyeball in the room with its tentacles in knots. The Globilol is growling at them, trying to persuade the recalcitrant limbs to cooperate, but the tentacles are having none of it. You step in and point out the benefits of teamwork. Oddly enough, it works.

The Globilol drops an item into your hands. It's only a little slimy.
Failure - Stomp your feet emphatically
Your stomping frightens the giant Globilol in the room, and the floating eyeball stops growling to shoot a curse at you. You dodge, but you're just not fast enough.

Is the Globilol giggling now? Figures.
Failure - Burst through the door violently
You crash into the room to find a giant floating eyeball growling at a puddle on the floor. What? How did a Globilol get down here? They're from the Space Station! While you try to puzzle this out, the Globilol spots you and fires a curse defensively.

You reel in shock. Corbin hauls you to your feet as the Globilol floats away.
Globilol - Huge Snores
Huge snores can be heard behind this door. Surely whatever is making them must be very, very large. Probably you don't want to disturb its slumber.
Success - Burst through the door violently
You catch a Globilol by surprise and punch it in the eye. Its tentacles, glowing with a curse ready to fire at you, go limp. The Globilol floats backward, rather stunned, leaving an item for you to grab.

You couldn't have done that again if you tried. Sometimes you get lucky.
Failure - Slip in all quiet and sneaky-like
You sneak in, hoping to slip past the giant, snoring Globilol floating in the middle of the room, but no luck. It wakes instantly and fires a curse at you.

Somehow, both Kell and Corbin manage to avoid getting hit. Why is it always you?
Failure - Throw open door boisteriously
You throw open the door with enthusiasm, but the Globilol inside mistakes your boisterousness for threatening behaviour, and curses you before fleeing in terror.

Globilol - Silence
All you hear past the door is silence. It's a deep, velvety hush that crushes all hope of escape or seeing a better tomorrow. It is the sound that comes after the last bell in the universe tolls its last peal—wait, wrong script. This is just an ordinary silence.
Success - Stomp your feet emphatically
You stomp your way into the room in time to see a giant Globilol panicking and floating away. Lucky you! These floating eyeballs can wreak havoc when they choose. That one left behind some treasure.

You hastily gather it up and put it in your pack.
Failure - Knock on the door politely
Your knocking goes unanswered, so you open the door and find a frightened Globilol cowering in the corner. You try to reassure the floating eyeball that you mean no harm, but it takes exception to your nose and fires a curse at you.

"Poor thing," says Kell. He rummages in his pocket for some Petpet food. "There you go."
Failure - Burst through the door violently
Surprise! There's a giant floating eyeball with tentacles in this room. The Globilol panics when you charge in, and it fires a curse at you.

That wasn't a good idea. Globilols are powerful and destructive creatures.
Globilol - Wordless Screaming
High, wordless screaming echoes through the door. You can't tell if whatever's doing it is terrified, furious, or really excited by the latest Usuki Doll release. Chilling.
Success - Burst through the door violently
It's a Globilol! The giant glowing eyeball floats toward you, screaming like a banshee. You charge toward it, waving your arms and screaming just as loud. Frightened, the Globilol retreats, dropping an item.

Kell shakes his head like he's trying not to laugh. "Interesting technique," he says.
Failure - Offer your services as a mediator
Mediate what? There's only one creature in here, an overgrown Globilol from the Space Station. The floating eyeball sees you and hisses, its tentacles coiling angrily. Kell tries to pull you aside, but—

Like a sitting Mallard.
Failure - Slip in all quiet and sneaky-like
You find a Globilol inside, screaming its head off. A broken toy lies on the ground. That's easy to fix. You move toward the toy, intending to repair it, but the giant floating eyeball mistakes your action for theft and curses you!

You watch a big tear roll from the Globilol's eye, but you're less sympathetic than you were a moment ago.
