Spooky Food Eating Contest Coverage

The Perlious Catacombs Door Outcomes

As part of the Perilous Catacombs step in the Spooky Food Eating Contest, users explored the catacombs below Neovia by opening doors. Each door was presented with some introductory text describing what could be heard or seen, and based on this, users selected one of three options to open it. If they selected the correct answer, users were awarded a prize, but picking either incorrect answer resulted in a curse. This is a record of all of the outcome text for the doors in the step.

Ghoul Catchers - Arguing
Behind the door, you can easily hear an argument. You're not sure what they're arguing about, but there's some pretty creative name-calling. You write down a few of the better insults, in case you want to use them sometime.
Success - Offer your services as a mediator
The Ghoul Catchers, a famous monster hunting team, are inside, attempting to stabilise the dark magic here. It seems to be affecting them, though. They're not usually this angry. You duck a flying wrench and gently coax the Ghoul Catchers to see each other's side of the problem.

Feeling much better, they offer you an item for your kind help.
Failure - Take sides in the argument
It's the Ghoul Catchers! You're a big fan of Dr. Boolin, but he's not a part of the argument (he rarely is). So you pick Brave Bren's side. Too bad Professor Vinsjin's the one holding the dangerous dark magic amulet they're trying to contain...

He didn't mean to curse you, really. It's the amulet's fault.
Failure - Burst through the door violently
Charging in, you find yourself in the illustrious presence of Professor Vinsjin and the Ghoul Catchers! Kell and Corbin aren't as starstruck as you, for some reason. At any rate, your charge seems to have startled Dr. Boolin into setting off a trap!

That's going to sting a little.
Ghoul Catchers - Glowing
The door is glowing. That can't be healthy. Maybe your eyes are playing tricks on you?
Success - Slip in all quiet and sneaky-like
You find the Ghoul Catchers inside. To your surprise, Kell and Corbin seem to know of them, too. The rival ghost hunters are dealing with a ghost that doesn't want to let go of the cursed book it's holding, so instead of bothering them, the three of you sneak by quietly.

This was just lying around where it could trip someone. You helpfully pick it up.
Failure - Say hello in a friendly voice
"Hullo there," a warm older voice responds. It's Professor Vinsjin, holding a knife that's imbued with dark magic. The knife appears to be cackling evilly. He smiles awkwardly, gesturing to his team, the Ghoul Catchers. "We're containing some of the errant dark magic here. You might want to be careful—

Maybe he shouldn't gesture with that knife in his hand. The good professor apologises for cursing you, of course.
Failure - Burst through the door violently
Inside, you find the Ghoul Catchers waving torches at a ghost Gremble. It's almost as big as the room and they have their hands full dealing with it. You'd like to just slip out again, but bursting in like that really caught the Gremble's attention.

Seriously, does everything in these catacombs have the power to throw curses?
Ghoul Catchers - Loud Chanting
Behind this door you hear loud chanting. The chanters are quite enthusiastic, though one is particularly bad at rhythm and keeps joining in late.
Success - Hum along with the cheery tune
The Ghoul Catchers are inside. Rivals of Kell and Corbin, they don't have a lot of respect for your scrappy monster hunters. They might have even attacked you to protect their trade secrets, but your humming made them think a ghost was in the room... so they flee, dropping an item.

Wonder what they were up to down here.
Failure - Burst through the door violently
You burst in and find a team of rival ghost hunters. Kell and Corbin seem familiar with these fellows, and not in a friendly way. They're the Ghoul Catchers! It turns out they're not here to find the monster, though. They're mopping up a mess caused by followers of Nox. Still, they do owe Kell and Corbin for that time with the street lamps...

You make a note to ask Kell and Corbin about it sometime, when they're less grumpy.
Failure - Knock politely
Professor Vinsjin himself opens the door. What a surprise, it's the Ghoul Catchers. You've heard of them; they're really famous in this part of the Haunted Woods. They don't seem to welcome the intrusion, though. A bit of dark magic breaks loose from their containment field and zaps you.

They apologise profusely, but really, they prefer to work alone for just this reason.
