Spooky Food Eating Contest

Spooky Food Eating Contest Coverage

The Perlious Catacombs Door Outcomes

As part of the Perilous Catacombs step in the Spooky Food Eating Contest, users explored the catacombs below Neovia by opening doors. Each door was presented with some introductory text describing what could be heard or seen, and based on this, users selected one of three options to open it. If they selected the correct answer, users were awarded a prize, but picking either incorrect answer resulted in a curse. This is a record of all of the outcome text for the doors in the step.

Dragon - Growling
The growls that you can hear through the door sound rather threatening, actually. Whatever's behind this door isn't likely to be friendly if it's already growling and hasn't even met you yet.
Success - Offer your services as a mediator
It's a dragon. A fire-breathing dragon! You roll up your sleeves and prepare to sort this argument out. It turns out his (until recently, living) dinner disagrees with him, but you make him understand the dinner's point of view. With that worked out, the dragon nudges a bit of treasure toward you.

This is a major favour on his part. Dragons hate to give up their treasure.
Failure - Burst through the door violently
You barge in, skidding to a halt in front of a dragon. It's not a large dragon, but it's definitely bigger than the biggest Skeith you've ever seen. It sort of fills the room. Smoke puffs from its nostrils as it eyes you with interest. Will you be dragon food? No, it's just going to curse you.

And you didn't even find any gold rings.
Failure - Stomp your feet emphatically
The door opens to reveal something else that can stomp its feet to impressive effect. It's a fire-breathing dragon. You have a bit of a stomp-off, but really, you're just not as loud. The dragon inhales like he's about to set you on fire for the entertainment value, but instead he just curses you.

He seems pretty entertained. Throwing curses must be as much fun as fire-breathing.
Dragon - Roar
Something monstrous just let out a roar in the next room. That's a good sign, right? Maybe you're getting the hang of this monster hunting thing. Corbin will be so impressed if you catch the monster.
Success - Muster your courage and step inside.
You bravely march and come face to face with a huge dragon! Just as your heart is sinking, the dragon tilts its head thoughtfully and drops an item from its claws onto your feet. It seems impressed that you kept your cool.

Yeah! You're brave and stuff! You faced a dragon and survived. You'll panic later when it's safe.
Failure - Slip in all quiet and sneaky-like
Sneaking was a great idea. There's a dragon in here! Unfortunately, you weren't quiet enough. The dragon's massive head swings around to glare at you. "Those are big teeth," Corbin remarks. It's just like the Snowager all over again, but instead of ice, the dragon fires curses at you. Duck!

Come to think of it, you never have much luck evading the Snowager either.
Failure - Burst through the door violently
You burst in, hoping to have finally found the monster. But no, that's not your blue-furred monster. That's a fire-breathing dragon! They do sound a bit alike, although the dragon has more of a froggy croak at the end of her roar. You flee to the door, only to set off a trap.

"Curses!" you exclaim. "Foiled again!"
Dragon - Warm to the Touch
The door is warm to the touch. Whatever is behind it has somehow heated the door to the temperature of muffins right from the oven. Ooh, muffins. What were we saying?
Success - Tell the door to chill out, seriously
The door cools off a bit, and you're able to open it without getting burned. Inside sits a dragon, nearly filling the entire room. He lets out a deep, rumbling laugh, apparently amused by your antics. The dragon leans closer and just as you're certain you're going to be his next lunch, he drops something at your feet.

It's warm to the touch. A gift from a dragon is a hot commodity, it seems.
Failure - Burst through the door violently
You crash through the door straight into a fire-breathing dragon. Oh, that's why it was warm. He was asleep, but your entrance woke him up. He waves a massive claw and a curse flies toward you.

If you'd known ahead of time, you would have let sleeping dragons lie.
Failure - Throw the door open boisterously
You hit your elbow as you open the door and spend the next minute jumping and clutching it. There's nothing funny about hitting your funny bone. The dragon in the middle of the room is not exactly laughing, either. She curses you casually, just to get you to stop bothering her.

You feel that this is all a little unfair.
