The Perlious Catacombs Door Outcomes

As part of the Perilous Catacombs step in the Spooky Food Eating Contest, users explored the catacombs below Neovia by opening doors. Each door was presented with some introductory text describing what could be heard or seen, and based on this, users selected one of three options to open it. If they selected the correct answer, users were awarded a prize, but picking either incorrect answer resulted in a curse. This is a record of all of the outcome text for the doors in the step.

Doppelgängers - Banjo Music
Someone, or something, is playing wild banjo music on the other side of the door. You recognise the melody. They're pretty good, actually.
Success - BANJO DUEL!
You launch into "The Pant Devil Went Down to Altador" and play your banjo fiercely. The doppelgangers inside are totally overwhelmed by your mad banjo skills and surrender. They even give you a nifty item out of respect.

You always knew there was a good reason you bought that banjo.
Failure - Hum along with the cheery tune
You nod your head to the beat as you hum, gently opening the door. What you find is bizarre: three figures that are identical to yourselves. "Oh, Slorgblossom," Kell mutters. "Doppelgangers. They must be products of the dark magic in these catacombs. You'll want to dodge.

You did dodge, darn it, but not fast enough. The doppelgangers stare eerily until they fade away.
Failure - Burst through the door violently
The banjo music trails off sinisterly. You are staring at your own face. Three doppelgangers, one for you, one for Kell, and one for Corbin, set down their banjos and advance on you, firing curses.

"It's a trap!" Corbin cries, too late. Fortunately, your doubles inexplicably vanish before they reach you.
Doppelgängers - Cinnamon Scent
A cool, faintly cinnamon scent wafts toward your nose. You look down to find purplish slime oozing out from under the door. Oh, darn. Those were new shoes, too.
Success - Burst through the door violently
You crash into the room, surprising a slimy thing halfway between a puddle and... you. It's a doppelganger. You must have caught it in the middle of transforming. "Ha!" you cry, running at it. Your doppelganger shrieks in terror and dissolves, oozing away and leaving you an item.

What fun! It's pretty slimy, but you can deal. You're a hero and stuff.
Failure - Say hello in a friendly voice
"Hello," a voice responds, sounding suspiciously familiar. You open the door to find yourself. You smile, or rather, your double does. Wow, you had no idea you could look so creepy. Just as you step forward to get a better look, your doppelganger fires a curse.

It escapes, leaving you trying to come up with a good insult that doesn't also apply to yourself.
Failure - Pull on a pair of gloves and open the door
Well, the gloves saved you from touching the slime, but they can't save you from the creepy monster in the middle of the room—oh, wait. That's you. You have a doppelganger, and its nefarious plans apparently start with throwing a curse at you.

As it flees, Kell shudders. "Dark magic has a mind of its own. The longer we stay here, the more trouble we'll run into.
Doppelgängers - Loud Chanting
Behind this door you hear loud chanting. The chanters are quite enthusiastic, though one is particularly bad at rhythm and keeps joining in late.
Success - Hum along with the cheery tune
Humming cheerfully, you open the door to find... yourself and the Monster Hunters! Weird, they must be doppelgangers. Your doubles break off their chanting and flee shrieking. "Must have thought we were doppelgangers too," Kell comments sagely, handing you an item his double dropped.

"Quick thinking to hum like that. Thanks, you saved us some trouble."
Failure - Knock politely
The door is opened by... you? You stare at yourself in puzzlement. Behind the other you stand copies of Kell and Corbin. They were standing around chanting. That's not the least bit spooky. What are these things? Did you go back in time, forget you had a twin, or—Corbin can't save you in time from the curse your doppelganger fires at you.

The dark magic of this place is so mean! Why does your double have to be evil?
Failure - Burst through the door violently
The chanting stops. Inside, it's Kell and Corbin, and... you? Wait a moment. You glance at the Monster Hunters by your side, then back to the three figures in the room before you. The resemblance is uncanny. Hey, your hair's kind of messy. You start to comb it back, but this is no mirror. Your doppelganger raises a hand, smiles creepily, and curses you...

"Wait a cotton-picking minute," you protest, but Kell hauls you away. "Monster to catch," he reminds you.
