Within the city of Sakhmet lives Stan, a hungry teenage Kyrii who must steal to survive. Constantly chased by the city guards, Stan will need to be quick to get his hands on some fruit...and keep his wits about him to avoid capture.

Transform
Temporary morphing potions help, too!

How to Play

Grand Theft Ummagine is played almost entirely with the arrow keys, though at times you'll need to use a mouse to select items from your inventory, located in the bottom left of the screen. If you want to use WASD or some other keyboard configuration rather than the arrow keys, press the "Setup" button on the game's main menu, click on the name of the key next to the direction shown (i.e. Down Arrow), then while the text is flashing press the key you want to use.

As the game uses an isometric perspective, the directions don't perfectly relate to the arrow keys. "Down" is toward the lower-left, "up" is toward the upper-right, "left" is toward the upper-left, and "right" is toward the lower-right. When one of the directional keys is pressed, Stan will begin walking in that direction, and will only stop if he walks into something solid, reaches the edge of the level, or if you press the same key again. To walk in a different direction, simply press your directional key of choice.

Game Screen
Why's he guarding a single piece of fruit, anyway?

The goal of the game is to collect all of the food and items in a level, then make your way to the exit. You will only be able to complete a given stage if you have stolen everything available. The food items you will be collecting are all Lost Desert favourites: Puntec Fruits, Bagguss, Tchea Fruits, Sphinx Links, and the titular Ummagines. Along with these you will also be collecting two special items, which will help you on your way. You can only carry one of each special item at a time, so it you spot one in a level but already have one in your inventory, feel free to use it to your advantage.

Special Items
Potion Elephante Potions will transform you into an Elephante guard for a short time. While transformed, other guards will still follow you, but will not try to capture you.
Ring Invisibility Rings will render you invisible for a short time. Guards will be unable to see you so won't give chase, but will be able to capture you if you touch them.

As Stan is technically a thief, and is technically robbing the city of Sakhmet blind, the Elephante guards that patrol the city will attempt to capture him on sight. Before Level 10, guards will be able to see Stan from six spaces away; afterward, security is a bit tighter, and they'll be able to see him at nine spaces. They're not too bright, however, and will have trouble finding their way around obstacles if you can trick them into the right position. You will also have to contend with cracked floors and other trapped tiles, which will instantly cause you to restart the current level should you step on one. You should also avoid stepping in water unless this guide indicates otherwise.

Trap Tiles
Beware the trap tiles!

Most stages in the game consist of a single room, but several will feature multiple sections, the screen shifting to follow you as you move from one to another. In these levels, a small array of arrows will appear next to the score in the lower-left corner, lighting up to indicate the direction of available sections. This can be useful in the game's larger, more complicated levels.

Scoring

While each item you steal is worth around 20 points, the number of points you receive is tied to the level rather than the items collected. The exceptions to this are the hidden bonus areas (detailed in the Level Solutions section below), in which you immediately receive 10 points for each piece of fruit you take. Due to these factors, while there are 64 food items to be collected throughout the game, the maximum score you can receive is 1,250.

Level Solutions

To view a level solution, use the blue arrows or select a level from the drop-down menu below. An animation will begin to play, showing you the steps necessary to complete the level, and an accompanying text guide will appear below it. If you would like to replay the animation or restart it while it's already playing, press the Replay button.

Solutions
Level 1
Level 1 Replay Animation
The first stage of the game is fairly straightforward; walk down until you're level with the Ummagine, then turn right. The Elephante guard will see you and step forward, but won't try to move around the well. Walk down to the bottom edge of the level, then turn left and step on the tile to complete the stage.
Level 2 (a)
Level 2 (a) Replay Animation
There are two variations of the second level, with slightly different layouts. This is the guide for variant (a), in which you collect a Puntec Fruit.

Start by moving to the left until you're in line with the sandstone slab with a plant below it, then move down. Wait for the Elephante guard to walk in front of the wooden poles, then move to the right. Go down to the bottom edge of the level then to the left, collecting the Puntec Fruit and completing the stage.
Level 2 (b)
Level 2 (b) Replay Animation
There are two variations of the second level, with slightly different layouts. This is the guide for variant (b), in which you collect an Ummagine.

Walk downward until you're stopped by the sandstone slab in the center of the stage and wait for the Elephante guard to approach you. Just before he reaches the row you're standing on, walk to the right, and he shouldn't try to follow. Go down to the bottom edge of the level then left, collecting the Ummagine and completing the stage.
Level 3 (a)
Level 3 (a) Replay Animation
There are two variations of the third level, with slightly different layouts. This is the guide for variant (a), in which you collect a Tchea Fruit.

Walk to the left, passing the grassy mound, then walk downward to the well. Move to the right until you reach the edge of the level, and wait for the Elephante guard to follow you; as soon as he's below the grassy mound, walk upward. The guard will stop below the mount, and shouldn't bother you for the rest of the level. Walk to the left, collecting the Tchea Fruit, then down to the water's edge. Go right, then down again to cross the bridge and complete the stage.
Level 3 (b)
Level 3 (b) Replay Animation
There are two variations of the third level, with slightly different layouts. This is the guide for variant (b), in which you collect an Ummagine.

Walk to the right, passing the grassy mound, then walk downward to the hedge. Move to the left until you reach the large city wall and immediately go upward; the Elephante guard should stop below the grassy mound, and won't bother you for the rest of the level. Once above the mound, move right and collect the Ummagine, continuing to the edge of the level. Go downward to the water's edge, then left onto the bridge, and finally down again to cross the bridge and complete the stage.
Level 4
Level 4 Replay Animation
When level four begins, the Elephante guard will start walking upward. Wait until he's just below the strip of grass before walking right, immediately moving downward once you reach the edge of the level. Stop just above the grass and go to the left, collecting the first Ummagine, then move one spave back so that you're above the palm tree. Walk upward, carefully avoiding the cracked ground that had been above the first Ummagine, until you're level with the second. Go left, collect the Ummagine then down and left again, passing through the Sakhmet city gates to complete the stage.

Upon completion of level four, you'll receive a code which grants instant access to level five when entered on the 'use level code' screen. This code is unique to each user.
Level 5
Level 5
You will begin in the bottom-right corner of level five, the first maze in the game. Mazes contain no enemies or traps, and a single Ummagine at the exit in the top-left corner. As the level layout is randomly generated each time you play, a walkthrough cannot be provided; do your best to work your way through to the end.
Level 6 (a)
Level 6 (a) Replay Animation
There are two variations of the sixth level, with slightly different layouts. This is the guide for variant (a), in which you collect a Bagguss.

Start by walking upward to the water's edge, then left to collect the Elephante Potion (see Items section above). Continue left, and the Elephante guard will start walking upward; once you've passed the palm tree, go down to the well, follow the path through the grass to the right, then follow it downward. The guard should stop at the well, and remain there for the duration of the level. Walk along the path to the left and step on the grass (I'm sure nobody will mind), turn upward to collect the Bagguss, then go left again and step on the tile to complete the stage.
Level 6 (b)
Level 6 (b) Replay Animation
There are two variations of the sixth level, with slightly different layouts. This is the guide for variant (b), in which you collect an Ummagine.

Start by walking downward to the water's edge, then left to collect the Elephante Potion (see Items section above). Continue left, then step upward and stop on the first grassy mound with a palm tree on it. When the Elephante guard starts chasing you, move to the right and stand above the plant with blue flowers. Wait for the guard to reach the palm tree you had been standing by, then go upward. Once you've passed the black obelisk (beneath which the guard will stop), turn to the left, collecting the Ummagine then continuing to the tile to complete the stage.
Level 7
Level 7 Replay Animation
Walk upward, turning left below the palm tree and crossing the bridge. Stop on the sandstone slab at the other end and carefully step onto the slab below, then onto the next to the left. Collect the Invisibility Ring (see the Items section above), walk up onto the last slab, then cross back over the bridge. Stop at the end of the bridge and go downward to the slab in front of the lower bridge, then very carefully go left and down on the bridge; it's possible to fall off and land somewhere you don't want to be. Move left one space and stop right above the grass. Select the Elephante Potion from your inventory in the lower-left corner of the screen, then quickly walk downward onto the grass, left (collecting the Ummagine), upward onto the bridge, then right. Walk straight to the right and off the end of the bridge, stopping before the cracked floor. Go downward, turn right to step onto the sandstone slab, then finally down again to cross the bridge and complete the stage.
Level 8
Level 8 Replay Animation
Level eight features multiple screens, so will be significantly longer (and more complicated) than the stages that came before. Start by walking downward, stopping at the intersecting paths. walk to the left and stop under the center palm tree, waiting until the Elephante guard steps onto the bridge. Move right until you're under the first Ummagine, then walk upward to collect it. If you timed it properly, the guard will move into position two spaces to the left of you, rendering himself harmless. Continue to the right, turning upward once you're between the two obelisks at the top of the screen. Walk between them and you'll be transported to The Hidden Pit, the first of the game's bonus areas. Collect the two Ummagines, the Puntec Fruit, and the Tchea Fruit before the third Ummagine, which is on a blue tile in the bottom-right corner that will transport you out of the pit. You can only enter each bonus area once per game.

Outside, walk downward, stopping one space above the water's edge. Go as far left as you can, turning upward and left again to cross the bridge. Walk up and collect the Elephante Potion, then walk back the way you came, being careful not to get too close to the guard. Continue to the right and stop on the sandstone stairs, then turn downward. As you're walking, select the Invisibility Ring in your inventory, activating it before you cross paths with the guard standing below the stairs. Turn right and collect the Puntec Fruit, then walk downward. Turn left and cross the center of the three bridges; your invisibility will wear off, and the guard should start chasing you. Continue to the end of the bridge then walk down, collecting the Ummagine. The guard should stop on the middle bridge, leaving you free to go to the right and cross the bottom one.

Stop on the slab at the end of the bridge and walk downward, stopping at the bottom edge of the level. Turn left and walk across the shallow water, which is a lighter shade of blue than the rest. Stop before the odd-looking patch of water on the far left end; this is a trap. Walk upward onto the grass and turn right, then walk up onto the bridge to collect the Invisibility Ring. Stop immediately once you've collected it, as the next space is a trap. Walk downward onto the grass again, stopping on the first grassy space. Turn left, then stop on the second sandy space you come across. Select the Invisibility Ring from your inventory, then walk to the left, down onto the bridge, and finally turn left and go through the purple door to complete the stage.

Upon completion of level eight, you'll receive a code which grants instant access to level nine when entered on the 'use level code' screen. This code is unique to each user.
Level 9
Level 9 Replay Animation
Level nine is very tedious to navigate, as literally half of the floor tiles are unmarked traps. Start by walking up to the sandstone wall at the top, then walk to the left, stopping in front of the cracked floor. Walk down to the bottom, to the left, then up when you reach the cracked floor. At the top walk left two spaces (there is no cracked floor as an indicator here) then turn downward. At the bottom again, walk left two spaces, go up, and finally, when you reach the top walk left two spaces, go down, and turn left through the doorway. In the next room, walk all the way to the bottom, go left two spaces, and repeat the previous room's pattern. Once you reach the lower-left corner of the room, step downward onto the sandstone slab to enter The Secret Temple, the second bonus area. Collect all six Ummagines here, then make your way to the blue exit tile in the top-right corner.

Outside, walk all the way upward into the next room, turning right at the sandstone wall. Stop at the end of the square-patterned floor tiles; the plain blue tiles to the right are trapped. Walk down two spaces, turn and walk all the way to the left, then walk down two more spaces and walk all the way back to the right. Step on the blue floor tile to the right, walk up one space to collect the Puntec Fruit, walk down again, and step back onto the square tile to the left. Walk down two spaces, go all the way to the left, down two spaces, and all the way to the right to pass through the doorway and complete the stage.
Level 10
Level 10 Replay Animation
From level ten onward, the Elephante guards will be able to see you from nine spaces away, and will be appearing in greater numbers. When the level begins, immediately walk upward to the top-left corner of the room, which will attract the attention of the two guards in this area. Once they're each above a two-high stack of crates, walk downward to make them stop in place; this will make escaping easier. Continue downward, pausing if necessary, and let the guard in the center of the room follow you. Stop to the left of one of the stacks of crates, causing the guard to become trapped within the ring the crates form. Walk back up to the center of the room (as marked by the square floor tiles on either end) then turn right. walking all the way to the other side. Go up and turn left, stopping next to the stacks of crates, and select the Elephante Potion in your inventory. Once it's activated, walk up to the top of the room and to then to the right, collecting the Elephante Potion and the Ummagine. Walk back to the left and go back down between the stacks of crates, then walk all the way to the right and down again. Step on the square floor tile to complete the stage.
Level 11
Level 11 Replay Animation
Start by walking upward, then turning right and stopping above the nearest table. An Elephante guard will begin advancing on you; wait for him to reach the farthest table before walking back toward the crates on the left, then walk downward to trap him between the tables. Turn to the right before reaching the obelisks, avoiding the cracked floor, and walk all the way to the rightmost edge of the level. Walk down to collect the Bagguss, then make your way upward and to the left, stopping next to the rightmost table. Select the Elephante Potion from your inventory, then quickly walk upward to the wall and turn right to collect the Invisibility Ring. Go back to the left and downward as fast as possible, as the guards will begin chasing you once the potion wears off. When you reach the bench near the bottom of the screen, turn and walk all the way to the left edge of the level. Walk downward (the guards should stop above the obelisks) and collect the Elephante Potion. Finally, go to the right and step on the square floor tile to complete the stage.
Level 12
Level 12 Replay Animation
This level will require precision in certain areas, so you will likely have to play through it several times to get the timing right. Start by walking down and stopping on the orange floor tile, walking one space to the right, and continuing downward; this will cause the nearby Elephante guard to stop above a sandstone wall to the right. Turn left at the doorway and enter the washroom, then walk upward and left again to reach The Hidden Chamber, the third bonus area, directly above the purple and gold toilet. If this isn't your first attempt at this level in your current play session, you won't need to do this. Collect the three Ummagines, the Tchea Fruit, and the Puntec Fruit before collecting the Ummagine on the orange tile in the bottom-right corner, which will transport you out of the chamber.

Walk back downward and to the right, going through the doorway you entered, then step downward and wait one space below the doorway. When the Elephante guard approaches, walk upward one space and turn to the right, going through the doorway once again, before turning down. The timing is a bit tricky, but you should be able to get the guard to stop in the doorway, where he will remain for the rest of the level. Walk downward and to the left, avoiding the cracked floor, and walk down through the door on the bottom wall of the room. Walk to the right and turn downward through the door of a room containing a Tchea Fruit. Stop one space into the room, turning left and stopping beside the crate before walking downward to collect the fruit. Immediately begin walking up again, to prevent the guard in the room to the right from getting out. Go back through the doorway and walk to the right, only stopping when you're above the far wall of the room at the bottom of the screen (a Bagguss should be visible in the top-right corner). Walk upward, turning to the right when you reach the top bench. Stop on the square floor tile and wait for the guard to move; right before he steps on the square tile to the right, begin moving upward. If you timed it right, when the screen shifts upward a new guard will begin chasing you, and occupy the same space as the other. Continue upward, then turn left when you reach the top of the level, turning downward as soon as you pass the tables. The guards should stop in the same space above the tables, keeping them out of the way for now.

After walking past the bottom table, turn left, and another guard (the first of the level, which we left standing by a wall) will immediately advance on you. Select the Elephante Potion from your inventory as you walk, and turn downward when you reach the door to the room above you. Walk through the doorway of the room below and collect the Ummagine to the right (avoiding the cracked floor aboev it) before going back through the door. Once outside the room, immediately walk to the right, as the guard will be waiting for you. Once you've passed the benches, turn downward, and the guard will stop above the wall. Walk down to the last bench, then turn right, collecting the Bagguss. Continue right to the wall then go upward, turning right at the square floor tile. Walk up the stone stairs and collect the Elephante Potion, then turn to the left. You will need to use the potion here, but I recommend doing so at the last possible second, to give you more time to get away from the guards that are now waiting for you. Walk down and collect the Sphinx Links, then immediately turn right to avoid the cracked floor. When you reach the stairs, go downward again, stopping only once you're between the short wall and the tables. Select the Invisibility Ring from your inventory and continue downward, collecting the Puntec Fruit before turning right and stepping on the orange floor tile to complete the stage.

Upon completion of level twelve, you'll receive a code which grants instant access to level thirteen when entered on the 'use level code' screen. This code is unique to each user.
Level 13
Level 13
You will begin in the bottom-right corner of level thirteen, the second maze in the game. Mazes contain no enemies or traps, and a single Ummagine at the exit in the top-left corner. As the level layout is randomly generated each time you play, a walkthrough cannot be provided; do your best to work your way through to the end.
Level 14
Level 14 Replay Animation
While this level has no Elephante guards, it is possible to walk off of the bridges and into the water, forcing you to restart. Begin by walking left to the palm tree in the bottom-left corner, upward to the corner of the bridge, then right to collect the Ummagine. As the floor here is cracked, return the way you came, only stopping once you reach the intersection of three bridges. Walk upward to collect the Ummagine, then walk one space to the left and turn upward, crossing the shallow water in the center of the stage. Turn right to collect the Ummagine, then cross the bridge above you. Turn left and walk to the palm tree, cross the bridge below to collect the Ummagine, then return to the tree. Walk all the way to the right and step on the blue floor tile to complete the stage.
Level 15
Level 15 Replay Animation
Start by taking one step to the right then walk downward, below both pools of water. Turn to the left and walk up into the water to enter The Royal Cellar, the game's fourth bonus area. Collect all six Ummagines before stepping on the square floor tile in the bottom-right corner to exit the cellar. Unfortunately, as soon as you do the Elephante guard who chased you to the cellar will catch you, restarting the stage; don't worry, you won't lose any points for this, and the Ummagines have already been credited to your score.

From the level's starting position, walk right until you've passed the wall, then walk one space downward and turn to the right. Go downward again to collect the Tchea Fruit (don't mind the guards, they can't reach you) and continue down until you're baside the next wall. Take one step to the left to collect the Ummagine, then take another step back to the right. Walk downward and step on the tile to complete the stage.
Level 16
Level 16 Replay Animation
This level is titled Endless Boardwalks, and you will soon see why. Walk all the way to the right (don't worry, the cracked floor is a fake) and go downward, turning left at the first branching path. Follow the path all the way to the end to collect the Elephante Potion, then return the the intersection. Walk upward and turn left, then follow this path until you reach the row before the Elephante guard. Select the potion from your inventory and collect the Ummagine, then return the way you came before the potion wears off. Go all the way back to the intersection yet again, this time going downward when you reach it. Follow the path all the way to its end, collecting the Ummagine and stepping on the tile to complete the stage.

Upon completion of level sixteen, you'll receive a code which grants instant access to level seventeen when entered on the 'use level code' screen. This code is unique to each user.
Level 17
Level 17
You will begin in the bottom-right corner of level seventeen, the third and final maze in the game. Mazes contain no enemies or traps, and a single Ummagine at the exit in the top-left corner. As the level layout is randomly generated each time you play, a walkthrough cannot be provided; do your best to work your way through to the end.
Level 18
Level 18 Replay Animation
This entire level is covered in water, but the only traps are the three obvious holes. Walk downward past the palm tree and to the right, collecting the Puntec Fruit before turning upward. Wait for the Elephante guard to approach, then turn to the left and down past the tree again; the guard should stop above the tree. Walk to the right, turning upward before reaching the hole, walk right past the palm tree, and upward again to enter the fifth and final bonus area, The Holy Fishing Grounds. Collect the Bagguss, two Ummagines, Elephante Potion, and Tchea Fruit before collecting the Puntec Fruit and stepping on the tile, exiting the fishing grounds.

Walk downward to the bottom-right corner of the screen, collecting the Ummagine, then turn left and walk past the palm tree; an Elephante guard will begin chasing you. Walk back to the right and stand in the corner, waiting for the guard. Once he reaches the palm tree, walk upward, and he will stop below it. Turn to the left above the tree and walk to the other end of the level, turning downward before you reach the palm tree here. Go left and step on the bridge to complete the stage.
Level 19
Level 19 Replay Animation
Begin by walking right, then turning downward when you hit the edge of the level. When the Elephante guard on the next screen sees you, immediately walk upward, luring him into the room above. Walk down to the bridge and turn left, turning upward through the doorway. Turn left at the doorway on the left wall and proceed into the next room. Continue left to the wall, the walk upward to collect the Invisibility Ring. Turn right, then walk upward through the door to the room above. Turn right at the next doorway, stopping to select the Elephante Potion from your inventory before entering the room. Walk upward and collect the Tchea Fruit, then turn right. As soon as the Elephante Potion wears off, select the Invisibility Ring from your inventory and walk right, collecting another Invisibility Ring. Walk back to the left then downward and go through the doorway in the bottom wall. Your invisibility will wear off before you make it to the next room, but the guards shouldn't be able to follow you. Walk downward to collect the Ummagine, then turn left and walk into the next room. Continue to the wall as you did before, this time turning downward, and turn right when you reach the shallow water. Collect the Puntec Fruit, being careful not to step in the hole just past it (you will lose points if you fall in), and return the way you came. Once past the wall turn upward, then walk to the left to go through the door and complete the stage.

Upon completion of level nineteen, you'll receive a code which grants instant access to level twenty when entered on the 'use level code' screen. This code is unique to each user.
Level 20
Level 20 Replay Animation
The final level of the game is brutal without a guide (this writer has first-hand experience), with narrow paths completely surrounded in traps, trick floors, and dead ends. As there are several turns in areas that the screen shifts, this level can be disorienting at times. Start by following the path of orange floor tiles left, up, left, up, left, up, left, then down, left, and down one space. You should be one space below the two wooden crates to the left. Walk left three spaces (the cracked floor here is fake), then upward onto the orance path above. Follow it to the right, up, right, down one space, and right again across another fake broken floor, walking three spaces before turning upward and onto yet another orange path. Walk one space to the right (you should be at the end of the path), then turn upward. Continue walking until your reach one more orange path; when you've drawn level with it and one of the orange floor tiles is directly to your left, step onto it. Follow the path upward and to the left (crossing one more fake cracked floor), downward, and to the left again. From here the orange path will take you directly to an Ummagine in the top-left corner; collect it to complete the game. Congratulations!

If you gained at least 1,100 points you will receive the Grand Theft Ummagine avatar upon submitting your score, and if you played the game all the way through and entered all five bonus areas, you will have the maximum score of 1,250 points. Submitting this score early in the month could even get you the gold Grand Theft Ummagine trophy!

Quick Tips

  • If a guard is chasing you, you can use an item for a last-second getaway.
  • As the game isn't timed and the guards only give chase if you get too close to them, you will be able to consult this guide while playing, even in the middle of a level.
  • Type the code ummaginethief during gameplay to skip the current level. Your score will decrease the first time you do this. If you continue to skip levels, your score will increase or decrease at random each time, but it will remain relatively low.
  • The level codes received after levels 4, 8, 12, 16 and 19 are randomly generated for each user, so while the code you get will always work for you, it won't work for anyone else.

Fun Facts

  • There are 64 food items that Stan can collect throughout the course of the game. Poor guy must be hungry!
  • If you enter the Setup menu via the main menu and click on the JubJub hieroglyph in the upper-right corner, Ollie The Phantom Orange Shirt Guy will appear.
  • In Level 7, if you walk straight upward after getting the Invisibility Ring you will be able to walk outside of the level boundaries and into the black area above. Glitchy!
  • If you assign more than one direction to the same key in the Setup menu, the highest on the list will be given priority.
