*Crickets chirp* ...What, not funny? No one ever finds the Lawyer funny...!
Since I thoroughly enjoyed my previous, albeit brief appearance, I felt it necessary to offer my services for a full guest starring role. For a small fee, of course. Quid pro quo is my motto! With Neopians the way they are today, it is pertinent that I impart as much of my legal prowess as my billable hours will allow...
I completed the Altador Plot several months ago and I still don't have the site theme. I've asked Neofriends and Neoboard lurkers about this a lot. Yes, I'm sure it isn't listed in my site preferences. Yes, I've really completed the plot. (I have the avatar!) And yes, I have visited King Altador and Finneus... I get the King's prizes every day. If you could help, that would be übertastic. Thanks! ~ starwars_acara
If you contact Neopets Support and explain your situation, they will be able to look into the matter further for you. Give them sufficient time (they're almost as busy as me) and an adequate solution will be found!
Hi TJNT! *Hands you a Meepit* Are we allowed to cover up our current avatar on our user lookup with a fake avatar? Oh, and be careful with the Meepit, he's vicious. ~ connorbemyname
That's a lawsuit right there. That Meepit has a clear intent to commit grievous bodily harm... towards me.
Back to the question at hand, I'm not at liberty to give a direct ruling (that would fall to TNT, so please do not take this as law); however, I do suggest proceeding with extreme caution as the line between a legal and a freezable offense is often extremely minute. Using a fake avatar to cover the avatar on your user lookup would be allowed so long as the purpose was not to mislead or deceive any Neopian.
To clarify, I would argue that covering your avatar with a real Secret Avatar you had not unlocked would not be allowed. In doing so, you would be representing to Neopia that you had legitimately obtained that avatar when you hadn't.
Similarly, it could be argued that you would not be allowed to make a "fake avatar" which was comparable to a real Secret Avatar and used it to cover the avatar on your user lookup. This would be because the avatar was so similar in appearance that it is possible you made it to confuse and mislead the general Neopian public. Likewise, it would not be allowed if you created a fake avatar and tried to persuade Neopians into believing it was a new Secret Avatar that they could unlock.
If you made a fake avatar which does not try to convey any other meaning or purpose (other than looking pretty or matching the theme of your lookup; we all enjoy pretty), and you disclosed that it's fake in a note on your lookup, that would be conceivable and, on the balance of probabilities, allowed.
Going through all that trouble, though...and for a 50x50 space on your lookup...it's just best to leave your avatar as-is.
Recently, I've been trying to get the Island Mystic avatar and I heard that if you change the page to another language, you get a new fortune. I was wondering if this is against the rules, because there is no financial gain. ~ l__ebilness__l
The Island Mystic is a daily activity where he gives you one fortune per day. If changing the language in which you view the site gives you a new (rather than a translation of the same) fortune, you are cheating the system. Financial gain need not come into account; think about the system TNT designed and the intent they had for users when they made it.
Note: It is okay to visit the Mystic on your side account (since, you know, there's no financial gain).
A fortune a day keeps the ice blasts away.
If you sell your old Neohome back to the bank, can you apply for a new piece of land, or are you stuck with Neohomes 2.0? ~ Solsticesprite
No, you are not stuck with Neohomes 2.0. You are able to apply for a new piece of land after selling your Classic Neohome to the Bank by clicking here. In order to sell your home, you must first demolish all rooms (make sure you remove your furniture items before that, though). Alternatively, you can access your Classic Neohome through the new Neohomes page by clicking the "Classic Neohomes" button.
Note: All sales and purchases are legally binding contracts. They are a permanent action and should not be taken lightly! On Neopets, once you sell your home, there is no "undo" function and no refunds!
Why was Whack-A-Kass renamed to Kass Basher, Whack-A-Ghost renamed to Ghost Bopper, Whack-A-Staff Member renamed to TNT Staff Smasher, and Whack-A-Beast renamed to Beast Smack? Also, why was Beast Smack removed from the Game Graveyard? ~ pikapika_2_2_2
The first part of your question has been answered here (and here by the phenomenal TNT). However, seeing as though I'm paying this very special visit, I thought I'd elaborate a little further and attempt to answer the rest of the question.
The answers above apply to Kass Basher, Ghost Bopper, TNT Staff Smasher and Beast Smack. My sole purpose in life is avoiding "sticky" legal disputes. Leaving the games with the name "Whack-A-" in the title was treading a little too close to another registered trademark for my liking.
In regards to Beast Smack, that game was so scary that it had to be removed from the site completely. A remnant of it remains here as Whack-A-Beast, though. (Note: you cannot actually play the game.) Hmm, that can't be right...
I live in a country where the NC Mall is not available (yet). I have some NC from Daily Dare and I also got my 150 free NC. So, is it okay if I change my country to USA (or to another country where the NC mall is available) and buy something with my NC? ~ vanilla_sophie
Even if you change your country, you most likely still won't be able to access the Mall. I think they've realized that a lot of people used to do this when they encountered country restrictions, so now they probably base your location on your IP address. So...you can try it, but I don't think it'll work.
The reason the NC Mall is not available in your country yet is more than likely because of your country's laws regarding online purchases. Once some kind of arrangement can be reached, I'm sure it will be available to you and then you'll be free to buy those cool animated wearables!
On some peoples' user lookups, in the hobbies section, it looks as if they wrote their own hobbies rather than selecting from the drop down list. How did they do that, because I would love to be able to edit it. ~ 1_doglefox
If you google "Neopets custom interests" you will find the code. Copy that code. Then:
- Go to My Account and click Modify Account Information (where there are drop down lists for your interests).
- Paste the code into the Address Bar in your browser and hit enter.
- There will now be text boxes that you can type your own custom interests into!
As stated by TNT here, custom hobbies/interests are okay, as long as you don't write anything inappropriate.
In the July 7, 2009 news, I saw an buddy icon with an artist Pink Ruki on it. I saw him before as a shopkeeper and he was checkered. Is that recycled art? ~ nuttywrong2005
It appears so! Good spotting on your behalf. Having said that, it must be difficult coming up with so many different poses after all these years...
Not only are we twins but we like identical poses!
Can you write a Neopets story based on a fairy tale or a myth? Like a Neopets version of "Little Red Riding Hood" or something? ~ Yahoobot
Since copyright does not protect the idea, only its expression in a particular form, it is not a breach of copyright to apply independent skill and labour to produce your own expression of someone else's idea*.
If I remember correctly, there was a Neovision video called Little Green Riding Hood, and there was a Neopian Times story that had elements of Aladdin in it. However, if you are writing something in the hopes of winning a shiny new trophy, it's a good idea not to copy the exact storyline of a fairy tale or myth--try to just base it loosely on them. Personal creativity counts for a lot! :)
You said that Neopets uses pop culture references. Can you give me some examples? ~ cheiro_de_queijo
There are a vast number of them. My favourites include:
- The 404 message "All your 404 are belong to us!" This is a play on the phrase "All your base are belong to us" from the Zero Wing game.
- The item The Two Ring is a reference to The One Ring from J.R.R Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.
- The 404 message "Sarah, go back to your room. Play with your toys. Forget about the 404." This is a reference to the iconic film Labyrinth and the quote by Jareth: "Sarah, go back to your room. Play with your toys and your costumes. Forget about the baby."
Give me a sign, hit me baby one more time!
Note: Lawyerbot does not condone violence. Hugs are much better!
This is a rather odd question, but where do the Kadoaties in the Kadoatery come from? If you get a Kadoatie, can you put in the Kadoatery? Thanks. ~ avelaingia
A few from here, a few from there and well, actually, all of them come from an automated system. You cannot put your own Kadoatie into the Kadoatery.
I had 150NC when I started playing Petpet Park. I went to the Mall to try on stuff and didn't buy anything, but while I was wearing the stuff I tried on, I left the mall and it took my NC and gave me the item I didn't want. If you don't take anything off in the Mall, does it charge you for it? Or did I do something wrong? ~ Megadeth36176
If you only clicked the little t-shirt "Try On" icon and didn't enter your password as some sort of confirmation, then you should not have been charged for the item.
I suggest going here to contact Petpet Park Support. Explain what happened in that form and they will (hopefully) be able to work out what happened. For Mall purchases, you get an e-mail receipt, so if you got one, I would also mention the Purchase Order Receipt Number in the report form.
How many times can you get suspended before you get iced for "breaking the rules too many times"? ~ zomgitsemma
Too many, in my opinion. If I ruled Neopia, leniency would be out the window. Ignorance of law (yes, all rules would be regarded as law) is not a defence. You break it, you're out. Muahaha. Muahahahaha. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *Cough cough splutter*
Please help! I've been hearing rumours that Atlas Of The Ancients is Neopets' last plot! *Faints* ~ milkshakecat
Didn't your mother tell you not to listen to rumours? No one knows for certain except TNT. Unless it comes directly from them, I suggest ignoring all murmurings of "last plot EVAR" and just continue enjoying the site! Nothing anyone can do about it anyway, not even me! (But I personally think there has to be another new plot some time in the future.)
I've read the side account guide thoroughly, so I know that you are allowed to visit the Neolodge on your side account. Does that mean, then, that all the NP needed to pay the Neolodge must come from your main account? ~ xweet_candy
Not even I, a cold, hard robot, like to see pets depressed. Yes, you are allowed to send your Neopets on side accounts to the Neolodge, but only with Neopoints earned on your main account which have been sent to the side account.
Of course, while you are on your side account, you might get random events that give you NP. It is perfectly okay to use those funds to pay for Neolodge stays. But I'm sure you knew that already, since you read our side account guide. :D
Why does everybody always underestimate people who are under 13 years old? I can understand not being able to use HTML, Neomail, and the Neoboards, but surely you should be able to make your own adventure? Come on, that is the thing that "kids" like me most want to do! What do you think? ~ neoawesomesauce
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA) is a United States federal law and applies to the online collection of personal information by persons or entities under U.S. jurisdiction (or foreign jurisdiction if such sites are directed to children in the U.S.) from children under 13 years of age. It's not that people under estimate those under 13 years of age, it's just the law and it is there to protect rather than restrict.
Green Uni Project... WHY? ~ Gordy_777
Why not?! Everyone sees Neopets in a different way!
