Tale of Woe Plot Coverage

Day 8: November 8th

Chapter 12 of the "A Tale of Woe" story is up. Read it here.

After reading, you can begin the plot!

NOTE: If you get a 404 error when you visit the Shack, it means that you have not successfully completed Part I of the plot. Check out our walkthrough to make sure you have done all the steps.

If your last item in your cabinet is Crushed Jurpleberries, click here to skip down to the Spectral Essence part of the guide.

If your last item in your cabinet is Bronze Sansam, click here to skip down to the Anti-Gravitic Goo part of the guide.

If your last item in your cabinet is Nova Essence, click here to skip down to the Ice Plasma/Platinum Mist/Psionic Singularian part of the guide.

1. Head to Sophie's Shack to see this funny bit:

Sophie
*huff* *puff* I can't... I can't believe that... We worked so hard to fix Neovia, and I just made it worse. What am I going to do?

Sophie
Girl, pull yourself together! You can't just give up. There's got to be something you can do. If they're still all under the effects of that danged Krawk's potion, then there must be some way to snap them out of it.

Sophie
I'd better go into my laboratory and start mixing up potions. This is going to be tough, though. I don't think there's ever been a potion like this before... I'm going to have to make things up as I go along.

2. Click on the door to go to Sophie's Lab.

For the first "level", you have the following ingredients:

Leafy Slorgblossom | Blumroot | Bagguss Pulp

The best way to show how this part of the plot works is through example.

The following is an example! Your data will be different!

Let's say Sophie asks for this:

Quantity: 5 grams
Relevant property: Power
Target value: +58 +/- 5

Notice "Relevant property: Power"--This indicates that I should focus on the power of my ingredient. You might receive a different property.

2.1 Click 'Open basic ingredients cabinet' and click on an ingredient--any ingredient. Then type in the number of grams and click 'Take basic ingredient.' In this case, you'd want to type in '5.'

You can Burn, Crush, Soak, or Desiccate ingredients. Performing an action on an ingredient will increase its relevant property. The longer the duration of the action, the more of the property the ingredient gains (you can perform actions on multiple ingredients at once).

Burn | Crush | Soak | Desiccate

You want your ingredient's property to be within the range of your target. In the example, the target was "+58 +/- 5," so power has to be anywhere in between 53 to 63. So burn, crush, soak, or desiccate your ingredient until it is within range.

2.2 Once that has been accomplished, click on 'Create new composite' to start mixing things now. For the first part, you will only need to make one composite.

Since the ingredient is the correct "quantity," and it is in the correct range for the given property, we can go ahead and click 'Throw it all in the cauldron and see what happens!'

You will get this message:

Sophie:
That seems to have worked out. I'll have to try it on something... and Bruno's not around.

Meowclops:
Mew?

Sophie:
Excellent.

Sophie:
Note to self: The smell of burning Meowclops hair is to be avoided at all costs.

Meowclops:
Mew.

3. For "level" 2, you get these ingredients:

Leafy Slorgblossom | Blumroot | Bagguss Pulp | Sharpgrass

You also have more requirements.

The following is an example! Your data will be different!

Let's say Sophie asks for this:

Composite #1:
Quantity: 19 grams
Relevant property: Divination
Target value: +41 +/- 5

Composite #2:
Quantity: 25 grams
Relevant property: Enchantment
Target value: +86 +/- 5

Composite 2 cannot contain more than 10 grams of any one basic ingredient.

Let's try making both.

For Composite #1, I'd want to take out 10 grams of one ingredient, (let's say I took out Bumroot), and 9 grams of that same ingredient. I'd also want to take out 10 grams of another ingredient, for use in Composite #2 (it is more efficient if you have all 3 available ingredient slots filled). Let's say I took out Sharpgrass.

I'd want the Bumroot to have a Divination of between 36 and 46. Meanwhile, I'd also be working on getting the Enchantment of the Sharpgrass to between 81 and 91. Remember that your requirements will be different!

After the divination/enchantment requirements were met, I'd click 'Create new composite' under one of the Bumroots and 'Create new composite' underneath the Sharpgrass.

Now 2 of the ingredient slots are free, so I'd want to take out 10 grams of anything but Sharpgrass, (let's say I took out Leafy Slorgblossom), and 5 grams of an entirely different ingredient, (let's say I took out Bagguss Pulp), and get started on increasing their enchantment.

Why? Because for Composite #2, Sophie asked for it to be 25 grams. I already have 10 grams of Sharpgrass, and I cannot use more than that, so I will need 2 more ingredients.

Oh no! My first composition is only 10 grams! I need to combine the other 9 grams to meet my quantity requirement. So I'd click on the first composition and then click on the 'Combine' button underneath the 9 grams of Bumroot.

Combining things increases the number of grams of the composition, but any properties will end up being the average of the composition and the thing you're combining!

For example, if my composition had a divination of 10, but the ingredient I was combining it with had a divination of 90, the resulting composition would have a divination of 50.

If you don't feel comfortable using averages or formulas, just make sure your relevant properties are in the correct range of numbers prior to combining.

I'd also have to combine my remaining 2 ingredients, (in this case, the Leafy Slorgblossom and Bagguss Pulp), with my second composition to finish Composite #2.

3.1 Once you have double-checked that all of Sophie's requirements have been met for both composites, you can click on the 'Throw it all in...' button again. You will get this message:

Sophie:
I think the ingredients are correct. Now let's make sure it works.

Meowclops:
Mew?

Sophie:
I'm glad you're back to normal. Time for dinner!

Sophie:
That's definitely not right. Although if everyone in Neovia had an extra Bearog head... nah.

Meowclops:
Mew!! GRRRRR!

Sophie:
Stop fighting, you two, or I'll turn this shack right around!

4. Having fun? Well guess what? There's another level! Your ingredients are:

Leafy Slorgblossom | Blumroot | Bagguss Pulp | Sharpgrass | Bloodfern Loam | Crushed Jurpleberries

You also have more requirements.

The following is an example! Your data will be different!

Let's say Sophie asks for this:

Composite #1:
Special: Spectral Essence
Quantity: 25 grams

Composite #2:
Quantity: 12 grams
Relevant property: Enchantment
Target value: +80 +/- 3
Relevant property: Divination
Target value: +81 +/- 3

Composite 2 cannot contain more than 3 grams of any one basic ingredient./p>

Composite #2 is similar to the one you did in the previous level. This time, you'd have 3 grams of 4 different ingredients.

But what about Spectral Essence? Sophie gives us a clue:

Sophie:

Hmm... I think this one's gonna end up being a lot more complicated. Let's just see if I can remember how to make that one composite... I think it had Bloodfern Loam and Leafy Slorgblossom, but I can't remember which property it needed...

You then need to have the following done:

20g Bloodfern Loam -- Crushed and Soaked (to max. for both)
5g Leafy Slorgblossom -- Crushed, Soaked and Dessicated (to max. for all)

Double-check that everything's correct, and throw it all in the cauldron. You will get this message:

Sophie:
Okay, third try. This one will work, I'm sure of it. Now, to test...

Meowclops:
Mew?

Sophie:
Ah, you again. Here, clopsey...

Sophie:
Uh-oh.

Dr. Meowsloth:
You fool! You'll pay for this treachery! I, Dr. Sloth, will bring your ruin down upon you!

Sophie:
I really hope this wears off soon.

5. You now have to look for the following:

Composite #1:
Special: Anti-Gravitic Goo
Quantity: 10 grams

Composite #2:
Special: Spectral Essence
Quantity: 23 grams
Relevant property: Conjuring
Target value: +275 +/- 1

Composite #3:
Quantity: 12 grams
Relevant property: Divination
Target value: +70 +/- 2
Relevant property: Enchantment
Target value: +103 +/- 2

Composite 3 cannot contain more than 3 grams of any one basic ingredient.

Note that Composites #2 and #3 are both different for everyone. You also have the following ingredients:

Leafy Slorgblossom | Blumroot | Bagguss Pulp | Sharpgrass

Bloodfern Loam | Crushed Jurpleberries | Babaa Wool | Bronze Sansam

The formula for the Spectral Essence is the following:
21g Bloodfern Loam - Crushed and Soaked to max.
2g Leafy Slorgblossom - Burned and Crushed to max.

The formula for the Anti-Gravitic Goo is the following:
4g Babaa Wool - Burned and Crushed to max.
3g Crushed Jurpleberries - Burned and Crushed to max.
3g Bagguss Pulp - Burned and Crushed to max.

After you throw everything into the pot, you will get the following dialogue:

Sophie:
Please, please, let this one work properly.

Meowclops:
Mew?

Sophie:
You're just a glutton for punishment, aren't you?

Sophie:
Okay, now that just doesn't even make sense.

Meowclops:
Emw.

6. Almost done this horrible, horrible step! You now have the following items:

Leafy Slorgblossom | Blumroot | Bagguss Pulp | Sharpgrass | Bloodfern Loam

Crushed Jurpleberries | Babaa Wool | Bronze Sansam | Maldive Root | Nova Essence

Your new composites (yours may be different) are the following:

Composite #1:
Special: Ice Plasma OR Psionic Singularity OR Platinum Mist
Quantity: 10 grams

Composite #2:
Special: Anti-Gravitic Goo
Quantity: 10 grams
Relevant property: Enchantment
Target value: -406 +/- 1
Relevant property: Power
Target value: +151 +/- 1

Composite #3:
Quantity: 5 grams
Relevant property: Conjuring
Target value: +300 +/- 1
Relevant property: Divination
Target value: +300 +/- 1

Composite 3 cannot contain more than 1 grams of any one basic ingredient.

The formula for the Psionic Singularity is the following:
8g Nova Essence - NOTHING DONE (make this part of the composition FIRST)
2g Madvine Root - Dessicated for 2 seconds (this ensures the averages to be 0 for all components)
(OR 6g Madvine Root - Dessicated for 6 seconds, then split into 2g)

The formula for the Platinum Mist is the following:
1g Sharpgrass - No actions
1g Madvine Root - No actions
8g Bronze Sansam - ALL actions to max.

The formula for the Ice Plasma is the following (all maxed):
1g Nova Essence - Burn, Crushed
1g Bumroot - Burn, Crushed
1g Sharpgrass - Burn, Crushed
7g Sharpgrass - NOTHING DONE

The formula for the Anti-Gravitic Goo is the following (all maxed):
4g Babaa Wool - Crushed
2g Bagguss Pulp - Crushed, Burned, Soaked, Dessicated
2g Crushed Jurpleberries - Burn, Crushed, Soaked
2g Crushed Jurpleberries - Crushed, Soaked

And the end message is:

Sophie:
If this one's not safe, then I don't know what I'll do...

Meowclops:
Mew.

Sophie:
Thanks for all your support, little guy. Down the hatch...
