Tale of Woe Plot Coverage

Day 2: October 9th

Chapter 1 of the "A Tale of Woe" story is up. Read it here.

After reading, you can begin the plot!

NOTE: If you get a 404 error when you visit the Shack, it means that you have not successfully completed Part I of the plot. Check out our walkthrough to make sure you have done all the steps.

1. First, head to the Shack. You lose your locket since Sophie stole it.

2. Click on the 'Flee in terror!' button and then hit 'Go into the scary cave...'. In the cave, you will only be able to carry one item at a time. The items available to carry are: a key, pile of rotten food, a chair, a mirror, and a lamppost. You cannot pick up the chest or the table. If, at any point, you run into a "huge, growling beast," simply click 'Continue' and you will end up in a random part of the cave.

3. Find the room with a mirror and the room with a giant pile of garbage. Click on the pile of garbage to pick up a smaller pile of rotten food. You should then go to the room with the mirror and arrange it so that the food is directly on top of the mirror or beside the mirror (to put down the food, or any other object that you have, simply click on a place in the room).

You should now have something that looks like this:

If you're having trouble, the coordinates of the objects should be something like:
Mirror: 238, 308
Food: 236, 225

OR

Mirror: 238, 308
Food: 310, 310

How do I use coordinates?

For Internet Explorer and Firefox:

When you hover over your cave room image, you should see a URL at the bottom of your browser window, in the status bar area:

The circled red part indicates the coordinates that you are at presently. Simply move your cursor until you are at the desired coordinates and click once to put down your object.

You should then get this message (if not, try walking around to other rooms for a while):



The mysterious, hulking creature stops and sniffs at the pile of rotten food on the floor. It picks up the food and eats it.

It seems to have an odd effect on the creature -- it's gotten all dizzy! It careens around the room.




The creature dizzily gazes at the chipped mirror -- and it seems terrified by its reflection! Whimpering, it turns and flees.

After a moment, the creature shakes off its dizziness and flees into another part of the cave!

4. Then, you need to shift the objects around so it looks like the following image. Do this in a room where there's a spot of light in the middle. You only have two rooms in the entire cave like this, so if one room doesn't work, try the other. Also, try the room with two obvious entrances to it first:

Suggested Coordinates:
Lamp: 236, 225
Mirror: 238, 308
Chair: 225, 155

OR

Lamp: 236, 225
Mirror: 238, 308
Chair: 234,171

The food can be placed anywhere.

Note:
These coordinates work for most people, but if they don't work for you, try the following:
- Move the chair closer to the lamppost
- Move the food
- Walk around the cave some more (you might have to do this a lot before you get the right message)

You should then get this message:

It falls toward the ground, and whacks its head on the chair.



The creature lies in a pool of moonlight, and you get your first good look at it. It appears to be an overgrown, misshapen Gelert. He whimpers sadly, no longer seeming like a dire threat.

Slowly, you begin to approach the creature, holding out your hand in a tentative gesture of friendship...
