The Phantom Orange Shirt Guy
We all know Oliver. That orange-shirted, creepily-smiling, tattooed-on-one-arm.... *Ben, where are you going with this?* I- - I dunno. After a little persuasion from Dave (well, actually, he didn't persuade me, he just kindly suggested) I decided to write this little guide on how to see Oliver. Olli Olli Oliver. He's Olli Olli Ol- Okay, I'll stop. In this article I'll cover who he is, why he seems to follow us wherever our gaming talents take us, and hopefully shed some light on a few other odd happenings in games around the site. Right, to the guide...

Who Is He?
Oliver was known by his co-workers at Neopets as 'The Phantom Orange Shirt Guy'. Unsurprisingly, he earned that name by consistantly sporting an orange shirt to work (who would have thought it!). However he recently left Neopets and joined Adam and Donna over at Meteor Games to work on developing their new project, Twin Skies. Since then he has had a make-over and now prefers to be referred to as (drum roll please) The Phantom Olive Shirt Guy. For more information about this miraculous transformation you can read an interview with the man himself here.
How Do I Find Him?
Several games (made by Oliver himself no less) have secret nooks that, when activated, exposes him to us. Here are the games:
| Parkfacts
Ollie popped up in his new olive garb in this game; clicking on the left eye of the Drym on the title screen revealed him. It's uncertain whether he had a hand in creating the game or if this was just a tribute to him.
| Destruct-O-Match III
On the main screen, click on the figure closest to the "Turn Visual Effect On/Off" button. Oliver appears in prehistoric clothes.
| Hasee Bounce
Oliver will sometimes fly by the screen like a normal Doughnutfruit; he's worth 42 points!
| Attack of the Gummy Dice
Our favorite game programmer makes two appearances in this game! Firstly, he is featured on a special cube with his head on it. When you drop it, it'll destroy all blocks within a two block radius. Secondly, when you're sending your score, click the Blue Blumaroo's eyeball and Ollie will pop up! |
| Dar-BLAT!!!
He will randomly appear on the Game Over screen and do a little dance beside the Darblat.
| Altador Cup
At the end screen where you submit your score, click the Techo's right eye. A fanfare of music will play and Oliver will pop up in a toga! |
| Great Qasalan Caper
After you send your score and are redirected back to the main screen, click the hanging Meerca's left eyeball, and Oliver will slide into view! (Note: It only works after sending your score!) Olli's head also appears during game play. If one of your statues touches his head, he'll explode, along with all of the Lyins in the level. |
| The Return of the Return of Dr. Sloth
Phew. Long name. TROTRODS (pronounced troh-trods) for short. ;) Anywho, on the main screen, Olli appears strapped to rockets! Simply click the teeny white speck in the eye of Dr. Sloth in the background image. (The green version of Sloth, not the black one.) He is also something you can shoot for 500 pts! |
| Snowball Fight
He appears in two places here. First, he's a character in game play that you can hit for up to 50 points for a head shot! Second, on the start screen, looking at the top of the ski slope... you'll see something orange. Click it! |
| Gourmet Club Bowls
Click on the pearl in the clam type food on the table to hear Oliver's evil laugh! |
| Defender Trainer
Clicking on Judge Hog's eye will result in an evil cackle from Oliver! |
| Ruins Rampage
To see Oliver transform from a Qasalan mummy into his orange-shirted self, on the main screen, click the left scarab, the right scarab, Horace's eye, and then Zina's eye. |
| Frumball
Upon entering Level 40, you'll see the Orange Shirt Guy himself. How to get there? Type 'kougra' to skip as many levels as you like. Or... you could play to 40! :P |
| Freaky Factory
Oliver will randomly pop up from the vats, along with some other random staff members and neopian things! |
| Grand Theft Ummagine
On the main screen, click Set-Up. Then, towards upper right corner, there is a blobby thing on the border under the Ankh. Click it. ;) |
| Coconut Shy
After you shoot a coconut, and the "You won xxx NP" box comes up, click the laughing quiggle's right eyeball. |
| Scamander Swarm
In the top left corner, clicking the Scamander's eye (who is walking down the building) will reveal Oliver! |
| Hannah And The Ice Caves
During the level ***Muahaha (the last level) he will randomly appear in the background. He doesn't do anything, but he seems to bring me bad luck. Every time I see him there I always end up dying. Hrmph! Also note that the falling crates form the word OLLI. Now I wonder who came up with that idea? |
| Tyrannian Mini Golf
At the screen where you select who you want to play as, click the Lupe's eyeball to choose Oliver as the player. The little picture of your character in the bottom left corner will be Oliver, and it is rumoured that he is a combination of the other three characters' skills. |
| Attack of the Revenge
On the main screen, clicking on the Benny the Blade's (the Bruce) right eye will reveal Oliver in yet another game! He is also a character during game play that you need to throw off the ship! Worth lots of points, of course. ;) |
| Destruct-O-Match II
Clicking on the bottom of the second bone in the title on the front screen will play a sound and make Oliver pop-up! |
| Ice Cream Machine
At the screen where it says what level you are now on, and so on (the beginning of each stage) leave the mouse idle for a couple of minutes. You will hear a sound and Adee will turn into Oliver, who will spin around wildly if you move the mouse. He will turn back into Adee when you click to begin the level, however. Dang. There is also a scoop of ice cream featuring Oliver. He's very rare, however. |
| Meerca Chase II
On the front screen of Meerca Chase II, poke the meerca in the right eye by clicking on him. He will turn into Oliver holding two Fish Neggs for a few seconds. |
| Snowmuncher
Poke Dieter in the right eye on the main screen to have Oliver standing on top of an O appear in the bottom left corner. |
| Meepit Juice Break
Click the uppermost green meepits eye in the main screen to see Oliver with a green meepit on his head. Ya know, they should make a Poke-Oliver game, so Olli can see how he likes it being poked in the eye so much. |
| Faerie Caves II: Fyora's Quest
Click the Gem on Fyora's crown to have Oliver appear. He'll be holding a torch near a green dynamite. Seriously kids, don't play with fire. BOOM. |
| Faerie Bubbles
Click on the little dot of fire closest to the cannon (and near the "b") to have Oliver appear. He appears amongst some faerie bubbles! |
| Smug Bug Smite
Click on 'View Instructions', then on the Mozito's right eye (i.e., his right eye, so the leftmost eye in the image). Ollie and another as-yet-unidentified staff member will appear!
| TNT Staff Smasher
Here you can exercise poking him for when the game comes out. He'll pop up randomly throughout the game. If you successfully whack him, he'll cackle evilly. Remind me to scream. Ahh. |
| Trouble At The National Neopian
A game just wouldn't be a game without an obviously rich Oliver poking his head in the door. Sometimes (extremely rarely) Oliver will appear as a customer, with bags of gold all around. This'll give you 25 points! |
| Petpetsitter
Clicking on a spot on the sleeping Feepit's head will reveal Oliver! |
| Attack of The Slorgs
Ooh jiggly jiggly. Guess what to poke? Yup, the yurble's right eye. Oliver's head will appear on the right side of the screen. Move your mouse over the buttons to make his head jiggle. Hehe. |
| The Buzzer Game
Sometimes Oliver will appear as a distraction in the background during gameplay. Don't mess up now! |
| Sutek's Tomb
On the instructions page, clicking the teeny weeny door on the pyramid to the right will make Oliver pop up. Occasionally during gameplay good 'ole Ollie will appear amongst the gems. Using him will result in the whole board being cleared. |
|
Black Pawkeet & Brucey B Slots
Oliver's head, like Adam's and Donna's, used roll by on the reels. It didn't do anything, but it was a nice way to break the monotony. Both games have since been rereleased without the staffs' heads, though. :( |
A Copycat Is On The Loose!
It would seem that Ollie has started a trend of sorts amongst the game programmers as another staffer has started slipping Easter eggs into their games as well! Weepit (not to be confused with the JN staffer of the same name) slips not-so-subtle clues into the games they work on in the form of sheets of paper with the words "Weepit was here" written on them. Though unlike Ollie's, there isn't really anything you can press to find these Easter eggs, they just appear randomly whilst playing the following games:
| Crisis Courier
In an exception to the "randomness" of the other appearances, you can trigger this Easter egg by clicking on the bottom leftmost window of the building in the background at the menu screen to enter a "secret" level.
| Faerie Cloud Racers
Sometimes at the beginning of the round you will notice the sheet of paper caught on the cloud at the bottom of the screen, though it blows away as the round starts.
| Imperial Exam
During random games you will see a sheet of paper with "Weepit was here" stuck to the sign above the doorway behind the Kacheek and the Grarrl.
| Jolly Jugglers
At the Game Over screen you may sometimes notice the sheet of paper stuck to a sign post behind Jolly and Olly.
| Tug 'O' War
Weepit has been known to put in an appearance during the fireworks at the end of the game.
| The Usul Suspects
At the start of a game you may spot a "Weepit was here" sign stuck across the face of the Chia slide on the left of the screen. (Thanks to Nica for finding and confirming this appearance!)
| Volcano Run II
During the game you will encounter rocks with "Weepit was here" carved into them. That is, if you can read them without crashing into the walls of the volcano. :) |
