Techo Mountain - Codestone Conversion
When red codestones (Mag, Vux, Cui, Kew, Sho, Zed) were first released, virtually the only way of getting them was by turning in ten regular codestones at Techo Mountain, and hoping you got the red codestone you needed for your class at the Secret Ninja Training School, an academy available to pets level 250 and above.
While these days it's a great deal cheaper to buy them from the shop wizard - thanks to their release from Keyquest and the Battledome - it's still possible to make them the old fashioned way.
Codestone Purchase Approach
While it's less of a problem these days, with all the red codestones being buyable, it's still worth remembering that there are plushie versions of the codestones out and about. When you're making your purchases or accepting a trade, make sure you're getting the real thing - not a useless plushie!

Codestone Redemption (trade-in) Approach
Barring a sudden mass inflation of the red codestones (or deflation of basic ones), it's unlikely to be more economical to trade in your basic codestones anytime soon. If you choose to do so, be warned that which codestones he requests varies each time - you can't get away with buying ten of the cheapest codestone out there.
