In Maths Nightmare, the object is to make all of Imiya's Babaas jump over the gate and run away. To do this, you need to solve the math problems on the selected Babaas.
To begin, pick a level to play (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, or Bonus - all four). To select a Babaa, either use the left and right arrow keys, or click on the Babaa you want. The equation below it should appear to Imiya the Aisha's left, enlarged. Type in the answer and hit enter. If you're right, the Babaa will jump over the little fence and go away. The next Babaa in 'line' will automatically be selected. If you're wrong, the answer box will only clear up so you can try again. The goal is to make all the Babaas vanish before they reach the large fence at the bottom. If three Babaas reach it, the game ends. As each level progresses, the equations on the Babaas get harder and harder. Single digits go to double digits, which can go to triple digits. The Mutant Babaas are also supposedly harder than the regular Babaas, but I've seen many instances where a Mutant and normal Babaa stood side by side with the same exact problem or even easier problems.
Put your non-mouse hand over the numeric keypad to the far right of your keyboard and make sure Num Lock is on. Use your mouse to select the Babaa and the other hand to type in the answers, looking at the problems before you select them. You should use the enter key in the bottom right corner of the keyboard. The best way to get better is to practice. The faster you know the answers, the faster you can put them in. Also train yourself in actually typing them in with the numeric keypad. If you want to use backspace, try clicking on the sheep again to erase the whole answer instead. It's often faster. Feel free to change this strategy to make it work for you.
When you type in a correct answer, the game automatically picks the next sheep for you. This can be bad when you really want to answer the questions quickly, which is pretty much all the time! One good way to counter this is to quickly click and type a row, wait for the auto-selecting to stop, and type and click the next row. Sometimes the numbers don't 'go in' if you type too quickly, so pay attention! Don't pay attention to the Neopets that occasionally pop up in the bottom right corner; they aren't important at all and just block your game time and score. Also make sure you answer the problems before they come close to the bottom fence. When a Babaa is jumping over the small fence, they can still count against you if they 'hit' the bottom one while doing so.
Every Babaa that successfully jumps over the small fence gives you two points. When the game is over, your score is automatically multiplied by two. Then it is multiplied again by 1 for Addition, 2 for Subtraction, 4 for Multiplication, 4 for Division, and 5 for Bonus. The Time counter doesn't seem to help you at all.
