Neopets: Island Builders

Gathering

Gathering Buildings are unlocked as you progress through story quests. They are locations you can send Neopet NPCs you recruit to generate items. These items themselves can then be used to progress quests, convert into Crabulator Building Materials, and craft decorations and other items. As such, using Neopets to gather resources is the primary gameplay of Neopets: Island Builders.

Each Gathering Building has a specific list of items that it can generate. By default, it will generate the first item in this list automatically over time. When an item has been generated, it will appear over the Gathering Building and can be tapped on to collect. If you want to generate other types of available items, you will need to send in a Neopet.

First, tap on the Gathering Building to bring up the menu. Then, select the item you wish to generate. A new menu will appear at the bottom. You can tap the Neopet icon that appears to cycle through the available Neopets you have and find the one you want to complete the job. When you are ready, tap the green button to send your Neopet to the Gathering Building and begin generating the item. Working on gathering an item will lower a Neopet's happiness rating over time, which you can replenish in various ways.

Each item takes a set amount of time to generate, with the time needed increasing the further down the list of available items you go. Most items beyond the first in the list also require Equipment to gather them. These are consumable items that can be created at the Workshop building.

Several items also have a slim chance to award an additional, even rarer item on completion. These rarer Bonus items are shown in a small icon next to the original item you are trying to generate.

Happiness also currently affects gathering ability of your pets. Any pet will need significant Happiness gains from Amenities and Omelettes in order to gather items. At the present time, Style Happiness from painting and hats does not contribute towards the ability to gather. This change to the game is still being developed, and does not work consistently at this time.

Elements

Each Gathering Building has an elemental alignment. There are six available elements of Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Dark, and Light. This is represented by an icon at the bottom of the building's item list.

Neopets themselves have the same elemental affinities, but these are randomly assigned and different between players. If you match the elemental affinity of the building and the Neopet you select to gather the item, that Neopet will not lose any happiness by performing the job. You can tell if there's a match, as both the elemental icons on the building and the Neopet will look as if they are on fire.

Attributes

Each individual item within a Gathering Building also has an additional variable, called an Attribute. These are Intuition, Dexterity, Efficiency, Agility, Luck, and Strength - formerly referred to as "IDEALS" from combining the first letter of each.

As with elements, Neopets also have randomly assigned Attributes. If you match the Attribute of the item and the Neopet, both icons will begin to glow. Sending a matching pet to gather that item will give bonuses based on the Attribute. Agility and Efficiency decrease the time taken to gather the item. Intuition and Luck increase the chances of any applicable rare items dropping. Strength and Dexterity increase the chance of an additional item dropping on top of the one being gathered.

Additionally, Neopets sent to gather items with matching Attributes will gain Experience Points, allowing them to level up over time. When they are ready to level up, they will have a star over their heads and can be tapped on to complete the process. Increasing the level of a Neopet increases the power of their Attribute bonus on matching items.
