High in the clouds of Faerieland (well, it doesn't look like it's fallen that far) is a game that mixes luck and skill, a place where one can spend a lot of time (but limited action!) seeing those unwanted bubbles disappear from Faerieland. A game called...Faerie Bubbles.

How to Play

The goal of the game is to clear 20 levels of bubbles by putting together three or more of the same bubble type. New bubbles are provided through a bubble gun at the bottom; the angle of the gun can be adjusted before firing.

Your moves are limited—every few moves, a bar from the top will press down a notch. For the first four levels it moves down every 6 moves, and after that it moves down every 5. If one of the bubbles hits the bottom of the screen, it's game over! You also win bonus points for finishing a level in fewer moves.

In the first level, you get a set of guidelines that show you exactly where the bubble you fire will land—after that, it's up to you!

Bubbles and Combos

There are six different types of regular bubbles. Grouping three bubbles of the same type will simply cause the bubbles to disappear. If you get four or more together, however, you will activate a combo effect. If all the bubbles that a bubble is attached to disappear (and it's not touching the top), that bubble will fall as well!

Air | Dark | Earth

Fire | Light | Water |

Good Combos

A water combination destroys all water bubbles on the screen. If you have two in your cannon but you only need one to complete the combo, you can just shoot the first water bubble anywhere so it doesn't touch the others, and use the second to finish off the combo.

Fire burns all non-water bubbles that touch the combo. This is the best possible combo in the game—try to trigger as many of these as you can in your game; it will be a big help in finishing the levels off quickly.

Bad Combos

Air fills in the empty spaces of the lines the combo occupies with more random bubbles! However, if you make a complete line of air bubbles so that there are no gaps for new bubbles to pop into, then the only thing that will happen is that the entire line will disappear. It's possible to use this combo to your advantage if the bubbles it creates can be easily dropped afterward—it can be lots of extra points. Similarly, in some later levels you may get a line entirely of air—if you hit it anywhere with an air bubble, all the bubbles below it will fall!

Earth makes a new line of bubbles appear on top. This one can vary—it may give you a nice combo, but it's more likely to give you bubbles you don't want! Even if the earth combo is the last set of bubbles you have to clear in a level, a new line will still appear—no getting off easy!

Good or Bad ("Chaotic") Combo

Light changes all bubbles touching the combo into one random colour, which is good or bad depending on what colour they turn into.

Dark bubbles in the combo all turn into random types when the combo is activated. This can be a problem when you have a lot of bubbles, or when you're pretty close to the bottom, but if you take the right chances (and with a ton of luck), you can use this combo to your advantage. I'd advise trying to get rid of any air or earth bubbles touching the combo first, as this can minimize your chances of negative combos. Dark combos will never turn into Dark or special bubbles.

There are more chances for chaotic combos to go bad than good, so watch out!

Special Bubbles

The Nova Bubble destroys all bubbles within a two bubble radius of wherever it touches.

The Rainbow Bubble takes on the colour of the bubble it touches first.

Scoring

You get 1 point for every bubble that falls or is otherwise destroyed. If you activate a combo, you'll also earn an additional 5 points. Once you finish a level, you also may earn bonus points, depending on how many moves it required. You'll see all of these points on a screen that shows up after a level is complete.

As long as you've finished the level properly (and in fewer than 35 moves), you'll be awarded a bonus based on the number of moves it took you to complete. Here's a handy-dandy chart!

Strategy

Faerie Bubbles looks like a simple game at first glance, but that can be deceptive! Here are a few more things to help you out along the way.

  • Pressing the up arrow key will direct your cannon perfectly vertical, which is useful if you have to shoot a bubble into a space in the exact middle of a row.
  • The bar at the top moves down every 6 shots for the first four levels, and every 5 after that, regardless of whether you manage combos or sets. The exception comes when you have only one colour of bubble left. At that point, it will move down every 3 shots.
  • Because of the comparatively large bonus for finishing a level with fewer moves, there is no benefit to prolonging any level to "farm" points. Focus on finishing each level as efficiently as possible.

Cheat Codes

Each of these official cheat codes will work once per game. It's to your advantage to wait until you absolutely HAVE to use them to continue.

  • Typing stardust turns the current bubble in your cannon into a Nova Bubble.
  • Typing faerieland turns the current bubble in your cannon into a Rainbow Bubble.
  • Typing slumberberry will make the bar pushing the bubbles down return to the top. Most useful when you're 1 push away from dying.
  • Typing bubbles turns all of the bubbles into one type. However, there is a downside to this one. Sometimes, it will change all the bubbles into a Nova or Rainbow bubble! To counter this, use the stardust or faerieland cheat to create the necessary bubble to pop them all. And in other cases, of course, you wind up with a type of bubble you don't want.

As an example, if you get really, really stuck on a level a good combination of cheats to use would be bubbles, followed by faerieland if you don't have the proper bubble coming up in time.

Changes From Flash Version

There are number of substantial changes from the Flash version. It is unknown which of these are bugs, oversights, or intentional changes.

  • Colours not remaining in-game will still show up to shoot. When the HTML5 version of Faerie Bubbles was first released, this was the one known issue listed. Despite the promise of an "ASAP" fix, the issue has remained indefinitely.
The Faerie Bubbles Game has a balancing issue where colours not remaining in-game will show up to shoot, making the levels very difficult to pass. We are working to address this issue ASAP.

From Beta update v0.4.8 release notes, October 21, 2021
  • The element layouts are consistent. In the Flash version, the elements used in each level's layout could change. In the HTML5 version, there is just a single layout with consistent elements each playthrough.

The five possible configurations for Level 1 in the Flash game; the HTML5 game has only the bottommost configuration.

  • The final score screen inaccurately shows 0 NPs earned. On the screen after finishing a game but prior to sending score, the page will display "NP: 0" no matter what score you achieved. This is just a visual glitch; when submitting score, the correct number of Neopoints is displayed and added to your on-hand total.

Notice that the top implies no NPs will be awarded, but the bottom shows they actually are.

  • The game is not included on your personal list of games played. No matter what score you submit, it will not appear on your personal high scores.
  • There is no 1,000 Neopoint limit. None of the HTML5 games have the 1,000 NP cap per score submission that all Flash games have; you can earn over 1,000 NPs per score submission if your score is high enough.
  • There is no high score table or trophies. Trophies are only awarded for scores submitted with the Flash version.
