Altador Cup News and Updates

  • June 12, 2011, 7:07 am NST - Here we are again ladies and gentlemen with yet another exciting round of the Altador Cup. Let's see what we have.

Today this report says there is only one sweep, and that is from the match up of Team Kreludor versus Team Lost Desert. Team Kreludor wanted revenge against the Lost Desert team for taking the title last year away from them; and what a sweet revenge it was. Will last year's champs ever make a come back?

Three match ups came out with the same results; one team wins all the games except for Slushie Slinger. Those match ups are: Team Krawk Island versus Team Brightvale, Krawk Island with the overall win. Team Terror Mountain versus Team Altador, Altador taking the Slushie Slinger win. Finally Team Roo Island versus Team Faerieland, with Roo Island triumphing over the Faeries. Can these teams who only seem to win with Slushie Slinger ever win in the other games? Stay tuned for more!

Moving on to our next match up we see Team Maraqua versus Team Tyrannia. Tyrannia proved that they are still the Kings and Queens of side games by dominating all but a draw in Make Some Noise. However, Team Maraqua would not let the overall win go to Tyrannia, and stopped them in their tracks on the field of Yooyuball, snatching the win from the prehistoric team.

It was Mystery Island versus Moltara. The Islanders shocked the Steampunks by showing them that they can stand whatever heat the team from Moltara can give, since they live right next to a very active volcano. The Islanders won everything but Make Some Noise, as Moltara has a rather large number of fangirls who who love nothing more than screaming at the sight of Aldric Beign.

Team Meridell seemed to have a few problems when facing Team Shenkuu, as they were forced to draw in the main event, Yooyuball. Shenkuu managed to gain a win in Make Some Noise, but that was all the Knights would allow, as they won Sluishie Slinger and Shootout Showdown.

Team Virtupets and Team Darigan Citadel fought hard against each other but in the end the team from the space station won the day. Virtupets showed that they are in it to win it when they entered the Yooyuball field; they would then go on and win that match up. Darigan Citadel would not allow a sweep of any kind as they won Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown. Virtupets let loose a few confetti cannons to gain the win in Make Some Noise.

With out last match up we see a similar result format as the Virtupets-Citadel match up, this time we see Team Haunted Woods versus Team Kiko Lake. This time things were different. While Kiko Lake did take the win in Slushie Slinger, they were only able to draw the Haunted Woods team in Shootout Showdown. The Haunted Woods did the same as Virtupets and take the wins of Yooyuball and Make Some Noise.

The standings are continuously changing, no matter where you look, so keep this in mind: It is still anyone's cup. Enjoy the games!
  • June 11, 2011, 6:24 am NST - Over to Zelda with the results of the tenth day of the 6th Annual Altador Cup:
Things are really heating up here in the Colosseum this year. The standings have been completely turned upside down from what one might expect.

Behind me, you'll see the current standings list. As you can see, we've got Altador and Moltara fighting to be not last. Faerieland is on the warpath against its reputation as flying faerie failures, and Lost Desert is desperately trying to fight the worst effects of the Winner's Curse yet seen. Many usual favorites and past winners are duking it out around the second bracket area of the standings here, while Darigan Citadel demands a repeat title close behind in third place. Tyrannia leads, but Kreludor is hot on their tails, and Virtupets closes out the top bracket. If you ask me, though, these standings will continue to change suddenly and surprise the most prophetic AC veterans as they have all season. Let's head over to the daily results postings.

All around me, there are players clamoring to see how they did in yesterday's matches. I'm afraid our poor title defenders will be disappointed again today, for they've been swept by Team Haunted Woods. Across the way, I see members of Team Kreludor and Team Tyrannia at the concessions stands celebrating their sweeps over Team Moltara and Team Brightvale, respectively.

Let's take a look at our determined faeries. You'll notice they faced Team Virtupets yesterday, and I'd say they were quite nervous that they might break their streak of not yet being swept this year. But, luck was on their side, for they took the Slushie Slinger win to prevent a sweep from Virtupets.

Team Shenkuu, which also seems to be suffering a hard, fast plummet down the leaderboard from their original place as major contenders, received the same results as Team Virtupets, taking the day with all but the win in Slushie Slinger, which went to their opponents--Team Altador.

It was Kikos versus Blumaroos over in Stadium 7 yesterday, and it was the Blumaroos who emerged victorious after a long battle. It was a costly win, though, for it was their only win--the Kikos reigned in the side games, winning Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown, and forcing a draw in Make Some Noise.

In our pirates vs. knights battle in the adjacent stadium, the victor was not so clear, for the day ended in a draw for the main game of Yooyuball. Side game results were split as well, with Meridell taking Slushie Slinger and Krawk Island taking Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown.

We'll end the day's results with the near-sweeps: it was a good day under the sea, and maybe not such a good one above it, for Team Maraqua missed the sweep by only a single draw in Shootout Showdown in yesterday's match agains Mystery Island.

Last, but not least, Team Darigan Citadel also ended the day with no losses, taking Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown, and accepting a draw from Terror Mountain in the other two arenas.

Well, that's it for today. Don't forget to head over here to see the full results of TNT's staff tournament, then head over to Neopets to choose your team for this week's round.

Good luck to all! It's time for me to head back to the staff lo---why is Rosie sewing? *peers in* Ack! What is going on in the staff lounge???
  • June 10, 2011, 1:35 am NST - Who would have thought this time last year we'd be in a situation where Tyrannia were at the top of the standings? Well, it's reality, and today the prehistoric team cemented their sudden success with a near sweep against Shenkuu. They took three of the four games, with Shenkuu managing a win in Shootout Showdown.

Once again Altador managed to claw back some victory in the face of defeat - again in Slushie Slinger. This time it was Kreludor who faced disappointment in losing out on a sweep, but they managed to take wins in the remaining three games. What is it about Slushie Slinger that seems so different this year?

The day's only full sweep came from Terror Mountain and their complete victory against Mystery Island. This gives Terror Mountain a top bracket position, but can they hold onto it for the rest of the Cup?

Darigan Citadel seem to have lost their grip on the top position after facing Krawk Island yesterday. Krawk Island made up for their lacklustre performance so far by winning both Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown. Darigan fought back with an outright win in Make Some Noise, and a draw in Slushie Slinger.

Virtupets and Maraqua, two currently closely ranked teams, met on the field yesterday. The day was ultimately Maraqua's, but barely. With a draw in Yooyuball, it was up to side games to decide the winner, and though Virtupets won the Make Some Noise match, Maraqua took both Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown.

The Lost Desert continued to face difficulty yesterday, and Kiko Lake managed two side game wins in Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown, while they got a draw in Make Some Noise. The all important Yooyuball win went to the Lost Desert though, their only outright win of the day.

A mixed bag of results came from the Meridell-Haunted Woods match. There were draws in two of the matches, Yooyuball and Make Some Noise, and each team took one of the remaining games. It was Meridell's day for Slushie Slinger, and the Haunted Woods took victory in Shootout Showdown.

Roo Island meanwhile faced a similar problem to Kreludor, but this time against Brightvale. They were deprived a full sweep, with Brightvale managing a win, once again, in Slushie Slinger.

Finally, Faerieland emerged triumphant in their match against Moltara with wins in both Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger. Moltara meanwhile managed a win in Make Some Noise and a draw in Shootout Showdown.

Tomorrow we'll have more results as the Cup enters double figures, so come back then!
  • June 9, 2011, 1:14 am NST - WOW. These past two days have been absolutely insane. There really is no explanation for it other than the fact that the Cup has officially been kicked into high gear!

A big congratulations to Tyrannia and Kreludor for their second sweeps in a row. They showed no mercy against Mystery Island or Krawk Island. Tyrannia has been dominating as of late, and a sweep against Mystery Island was to be expected. However, Krawk Island being swept? Did anyone see that coming?

Maraqua served Lost Desert their first sweep. Lost Desert has been barely holding on with only one win in Yooyuball and scattered wins and draws in side games, but today, they were left with nothing.

Virtupets fared well against their opponents today as well. Only a win by Altador in Slushie Slinger stood between them and a full sweep. Meridell also came close to a full sweep, just missing it by a draw in in Shootout Showdown with Faerieland.

The Moltarans narrowly evaded being swept by Darigan Citadel, snagging a draw in Slushie Slinger. Same goes for the Faeries, where a draw in Shootout Showdown spared them from the wrath of King Skarl's broomstick.

The fourth sweep of the day is rather surprising. The Roo Islanders will definitely channel their anguish into playing against their opponents today, Brightvale, after being utterly swept by Terror Mountain.

Shenkuu and Haunted Woods drew for Yooyuball, but the Woods took all the side games and claimed the overall win. The closest match of the day goes to Brightvale and Kiko Lake. Both teams played valiantly, but Brightvale took Yooyuball and the Kikos won all else.

Several matches to look out for today; more opportunities for sweeps, as well as matches that will place you on the edge of your seat! Will Krawk Island or Darigan prevail? These two champions know what it takes to win and will not hold back! Maraqua vs. Virtupets will definitely be a match to watch too. With Virtupets holding onto first tier by a hair and Maraqua in their trademark fifth place, Maraqua would love to exchange positions. Also, I turn your attention to Faerieland vs. Moltara. Faerieland has been outperforming Moltara, but with a team so close to them in ranking, will Moltara be able to pull through and achieve their second win?

A friendly reminder to pick your Dream Staff Team for the first round of the Staff Tournament! The selections will be closing soon, and you wouldn't want go miss out on the spiffy prizes TNT has in store for us this year, would you? ;)
  • June 8, 2011, 4:04 am NST - We now enter a week of AC coverage of one of the most interesting years this reporter has seen. Can it keep up the drama? The momentum? The suspense?! Only time will tell ladies and gentlemen!

Today we'll start off with the sweeps. Darigan Citadel took all wins over Shenkuu, Kreludor clogged up any chances of a lose against Brightvale, and finally the prehistoric wonders, Tyrannia, walked away with all wins against the home team, who with this loss went back down to last place. Moving on then!

It was the ROOsters versus the Steam-punks in the show down of Team Roo Island versus Team Moltara. It was a good match up in the end but Moltara took home the victory in Make Some Noise. Could this win help Roo Island retake what was once theirs?

Next, we see the fierce fight of two teams in the lower tier: Kiko Lake versus Faerieland. After a tough battle the end result went in favor of the Kikos. There were draws in Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, and Make Some Noise, but the the Kikos took the win for Shootout Showdown.

Last year's winners can not seem to catch a break. Team Virtupets snatched victory from them in Yooyuball, Make Some Noise, and Shootout Showdown, but the Lost Desert team would not allow them to sweep and managed to draw them in Slushie Slinger.

Team Maraqua challenged the Haunted Woods, but only walked away with two wins. Fortunately those two wins won them the match. The team tied in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, with Maraqua taking the wins in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise.

Team Meridell invaded Mystery Island and almost swept their opponents once again, but were halted by a draw. The Islanders were unable to stop them in all events except for Make Some Noise, where they could only tie. This is the same results as the day before with Meridell when they faced Altador. Maybe the Knights should look into shouting lessons?

Finally it was Pirates versus Mountaineers. Stopping Terror Mountain from winning this match up, Krawk Island snatched the win in Yooyuball. They could not seem to do anything else except for draw in Shootout Showdown. Terror Mountain is on the rise this year. Who knows just how far they will go!

That is all for today's coverage. Enjoy the games!
  • June 7, 2011, 6:09 am NST - Well, as we settle in to the familiar rhythm of the Altador Cup, the contenders are beginning to show themselves, and sweeps are becoming more frequent.

Team Darigan Citadel managed a sweep over Team Roo Island, sending them to the top of the leaderboard. Could this be the first year for a repeat win? Darigan was a favorite going into the Cup....

Other sweeps include Team Krawk Island, who shut out Team Moltara, and Team Terror Mountain, who stopped Team Brightvale's improvement this year in its tracks. The last sweep of the day goes to Team Maraqua, who defeated Team Shenkuu. It certainly seems Shenkuu has fallen far this year.

Speaking of falling far, Team Lost Desert has been plagued by the winner's curse this year, falling farther in the early standings than has any team thus far. Nevertheless, they did manage to avoid a sweep by frontrunners Team Tyrannia by taking the win in Yooyuball and thus the victory for the day. Tyrannia, however, was not far behind, as it easily snatched the victory in every side game.

There was one near-sweep, or team which lost no games, today: Team Meridell was one draw (in Make Some Noise) short of a sweep of Team Altador, who are desperately trying to maintain their dignity as host team by keeping out of 18th place. So far they're succeeding, but it could be a challenge.

Team Faerieland continues to surprise by keeping themselves from a sweep by certain contenders Team Kreludor. It seems the faeries have a new specialty this year--Slushie Slinger. Team Kreludor took the other three wins and thus the total victory, but the faeries are gladly celebrating another win in Slushie Slinger.

The last two matches held the same results--a win in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise, a draw in Slushie Slinger, and a loss in Shootout Showdown. It seems the newer side game is still giving a few teams some trouble. The winning teams are Mystery Island, who played Kiko Lake, and Virtupets, who played Haunted Woods.

As we look at the standings, we see expected teams in contention, such as Darigan Citadel, and dark horses, such as Maraqua. One thing's for certain, though--this Cup is one to watch! And don't forget that TNT's got their own competition going. That's right! It's time to pick your team for the staff tournament!
  • June 6, 2011, 2:19 pm NST - The Staff Tournament is underway. This year you will choose your fantasy team players. You will assemble your team by choosing two defenders, two forwards and one goalie. See the Official Staff Tournament rules for more details.

    Staff Tournament Guide and Results
  • June 6, 2011, 2:11 am NST - Another day of small but significant changes in the Cup yesterday, this is certainly shaping up to be the most unpredictable Cup so far!

We start with Tyrannia, who once again have managed a surprising day of upsets - this time against Kreludor. Although Kreludor took the Shootout Showdown win, Tyrannia forced draws in both Yooyuball and Make Some Noise, while taking the Slushie Slinger win outright, helping them maintain their current 2nd position.

Brightvale fared better against former champions, the Lost Desert, taking wins in Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, and Make Some Noise. The Lost Desert came back with a win in Shootout Showdown, but it was too little too late.

Elsewhere, Moltara proved to be easy pickings for Maraqua, who gained the only sweep of the day. Hopefully Moltara can recover and continue to gain wins today.

Faerieland continued their string of wins in what may prove to be their comeback season, taking 3 out of 4 wins in their games against Altador. To their credit, the host nation managed a win in Slushie Slinger, depriving Faerieland of a full sweep.

A mixed bag of results came from the Krawk Island-Haunted Woods game. It was ultimately Krawk Islands day with wins in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, but the Haunted Woods took the Make Some Noise win and forced a draw in Slushie Slinger.

Similarly, the results of Roo Island and Shenkuu's match were mixed. It was narrowly Roo Island's day, with wins in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, just like Krawk Island. Again, Slushie Slinger was a draw, and Shenkuu managed a Make Some Noise win.

Virtupets and Terror Mountain, the two traditional Shootout Showdown giants, met on the field at last yesterday. Although Terror Mountain took the Shootout Showdown win, it was Virtupets's day with wins in the more important Yooyuball and another win in Make Some Noise. Terror Mountain meanwhile managed to counter with their own win in Slushie Slinger.

Despite currently sitting at the top of the table, the Darigan Citadel faced problems against Mystery Island. What should have been a full sweep for the pack leaders instead included draws in Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown, though Make Some Noise and Yooyuball did go to Darigan.

Finally, Meridell also faced a minor problem from Kiko Lake. Wins in Yooyuball, Make Some Noise, and Shootout Showdown went as planned for the Meridellians, but Kiko Lake fought back and managed a draw in Slushie Slinger. Yet another day of strong teams being weakened by Slushie Slinger, it seems. Will it be enough to lose anyone the Cup? Probably not, but it will certainly make the top two brackets a lot closer.
  • June 5, 2011, 1:16 am NST - Day 4 has come and passed, and what an interesting day it has been!
Rebounding from a rather devastating loss from Maraqua the previous day, Meridell takes a commanding win over Terror Mountain. Meridell was able to leave Terror Mountain with only a win in Make Some Noise and a draw in Shootout Showdown while winning the rest. Neither Meridell nor Terror Mountain are pushovers, so it's safe to assume that both teams were fighting their hardest. Not to mention, Meridell has a bit of an unfair advantage that their goalie is so cute that you almost don't want to score on him...

Despite Shenkuu's past couple of days (which have been a poor reflection upon the team), they fared very well against Brightvale. Shenkuu not only won Yooyuball but also Shootout Showdown. They left Team Brightvale with only a win in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise. Guess those Slushie Slinging classes King Hagan ordered for are finally paying off!

Mystery Island has always been the epitome of an unpredictable team, and today was no exception. Only allowing Lost Desert to win Slushie Slinger, Mystery Island took Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, then drew in Make Some Noise. Is Mystery Island on the rise, or has the Lost Desert really been badly affected by the greatly feared "Winner's Curse"? The Cup is only in its early stages so only time will tell! Each day, the Cup leaves more question than it does answers.

Maraqua is finally displaying more signs of improvement and living up to the high expectations that have been cast upon them. They won today against Krawk Island after drawing the main event of Yooyuball but winning all the side games, leaving Krawk Island without a win. Speaking of being not able to win, Faerieland isn't such an easy sweep this year and good for them! While they couldn't clinch the win against the AC I winners, Haunted Woods, the good ol' Faeries managed to steal the Slushie Slinger win and even get a draw in Shootout Showdown.

Quite a few near sweeps today! Darigan Citadel NEARLY swept Altador, but Altador managed to hang on to a Slushie Slinger win. The same results applies to the match of Kiko Lake versus Kreludor with Kiko Lake only managing the meager Slushie Slinger win, and Kreludor walking happily away with the victory. Virtupets had the closest sweep - only letting Shootout Showdown slip (resulting in a draw) in their victory against previous winners, Roo Island. Can Roo Island pick up their game and rise to the top for another shot at the title?

The only sweep of the day goes to Tyrannia for sweeping Moltara! Tyrannia is slowly making a name for themselves, with the past few days as an indication. They are applying their strength of being side game masters and trying to expand into the field of Yooyuball. Also, will Moltara be able to pick themselves up again and win their SECOND Yooyuball match sometime soon? While their first win was also against a lower-tiered team, it certainly shows that Moltarans are not going to throw in the towel just yet.

It looks like it'll be an exciting Day 5 with matchups such as Terror Mountain vs. Virtupets (Clash of the small teams!), Haunted Woods vs. Krawk Island, and Faerieland vs. Altador! So, this is Marie signing out and telling you to stay tuned for there's bound to be surprises just around the corner!
  • June 4, 2011, 7:57 am NST - Today it's over to Link in the commentator's box for the latest results of the ACVI.

Today we report that there were surprisingly no sweeps, but some interesting results. We are now starting to see who will be the top contenders of this year's Cup and who will be sitting on the bottom.

The first interesting result we see today is that of Team Darigan Citadel and Team Brightvale. Darigan almost came away with a sweep with wins in Yooyuball, Shootout Showdown, and Make Some Noise, but were forced to draw in Slushie Slinger. Is Team Brightvale losing steam, or were they relaxing after the sweep the day before against Team Altador?

Speaking of Team Altador, their match against Team Moltara was not what they would have hoped for. The day went to Moltara, who took wins in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, while Altador obtained victories in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise. You may be interested to know that Altador's Center Forward, Winberto Seliz, at the time of this report is currently placed 7th on the Top Scorers list. Is Altador trying their hardest to win the main event, but just do not have the power to do it, or do all Altadorians consistently score with the same man?

Moving on to the closely watched game of Team Tyrannia and Team Virtupets. Tyrannia has been stopped in its tracks of being undefeated in Yooyuball in this match up. They did however take the win in Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown, with Make Some Noise ending in a draw. Despite their talent for side games, Virtupets takes the day with their win in Yooyuball.

Team Lost Desert cannot seem to find the power they once showed in past ACs, as once again they are almost completely defeated, this time at the hands of Team Terror Mountain. Terror Mountain took victories in everything but Slushie Slinger, in which they were only able to tie with the Lost Desert team.

It was pirates versus faeries in the next match up, and the faeries showed that they were not going down without a fight. Team Krawk Island won their games in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, while Team Faerieland won in Slushie Slinger and drew with the pirates in Make Some Noise.

Team Maraqua finally obtained the wins they have been seeking in their match against Team Meridell, taking the win in Yooyuball, Make Some Noise, and Shootout Showdown. The knights, avoiding the sweep, took home the victory in Slushie Slinger.

Team Shenkuu is dreaming once again of the top, where they resided during their first Cup. Sadly, at the rate they are going right now, that dream may not come true. While they did win their matches against Team Kiko Lake in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown, the Kikos took Slushie Slinger from Shenkuu. The teams were found to be evenly matched in the main event, Yooyuball.

Lastly we come up to the matches of Team Kreludor versus Team Haunted Woods, and Team Roo Island versus Team Mystery Island. Both match ups saw draws in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise; over on Kreludor they are celebrating their wins in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, while Team Roo Island takes the win in Yooyuball, but not in Shootout Showdown.

Will Altador ever take home the victory in the main game? Will Terror Mountain continue its climb to the top? Will Tyrannia lose steam in the next few games? Tune in for more here at Jellyneo, and best of luck to all the teams today in their matches.
