Altador Cup News and Updates

  • June 21, 2011, 11:38 am NST - The JN AC staff tournament has begun. You can now submit your votes for round one.

Everyone participating in the voting will be choosing a team to support. You can find out more about each team by visiting the commentary and introduction pages. You will be helping your team (either the Jelly Squad or Diet Terror) by collecting parts to build the FrankenStitch or FreakaZord with the parts you earn from the Wheel of Victory.

To earn wheel spins, you will need to make correct guesses each round. Each correct guess will earn you one Wheel of Victory spin. You can begin building as soon as you have proper parts for your team at the end of each round. Once you have completed building, a tally will be added to your team's score. You can find more information about the team building on the Victory Wheel page.
  • June 21, 2011, 1:39 am NST - Anyone getting tired of the AC yet? If yes, I'm sorry to inform you that there's still a long road ahead before you even catch a glimpse of the finish line. You can, however, enjoy this coverage as you take a mini-break from playing. (:

Team Mystery Island prevailed against Team Maraqua today. Mystery Island won Yooyuball and drew Shootout Showdown while Maraqua took what they could (Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise). Terror Mountain suffered the exact same fate as Maraqua when they squared off against Krawk Island. Only able to win Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise, they drew in Shootout Showdown and lost the main event to Krawk Island.

Meridell faced Altador today and was the only team to receive a sweep. Slushie Slinger couldn't save Altador today from MD-MD-MD-MD all across the results board.

The Draconians were against the Zombies today. It was a close match, but the Draconians managed to pull ahead by winning Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown. The Zombies were able to win Make Some Noise (supposedly Darigan's game at the beginning of the Cup), and the Yooyuball match ended as a tie.

Prior to AC V, pulling a "Shenkuu" was known as making a big comeback in the second Round Robin. Is Shenkuu ... pulling a "Shenkuu"? While they were side game swept today, they were able to claim the overall win against Tyrannia by winning Yooyuball. If they are indeed pulling a Shenkuu, they are certainly on the right track!

Team Lost Desert won Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger today. Their opponents, the Kikos, avoided being swept by winning Shootout Showdown and Make Some Noise. in other news, Faerieland nearly swept Moltara today! The Faeries won Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, AND Shootout Showdown, leaving only Make Some Noise for Moltara to collect.

Team Brightvale found difficulty when facing Team Roo Island. They were only able to fully win Slushie Slinger and draw Make Some Noise. This left Roo Island to win Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, displaying that jesting is not the only thing they can win at.

That's right folks! I saved the best match of the day for last. Team Kreludor received their first Yooyuball loss of the season today from their fellow space-dwelling opponents, Team Virtupets! After being served their first loss of the season yesterday from Maraqua (D-MQ-D-D), their Yooyuball streak of no losses after 19 (NINETEEN! What a feat!) was ended. Virtupets not only won Yooyuball but also Make Some Noise. This left Kreludor with their leftovers - Shootout Showdown and Slushie Slinger.

Looks like an exciting day ahead! I won't keep you hear much longer, so this is Marie out. What are you still doing here?! Go play! Your team needs you!
  • June 20, 2011, 5:58 am NST - Another day, another set of results.

The only sweep to report today is that of Team Virtupets, who soundly defeated the Roo Islanders in yesterday's match.

Speaking of space inhabitants, Team Kreludor's match against Team Maraqua was quite the deadlock yesterday, with three of the four matches ending in a draw. In the end, though, the Maraquans took the victory in Slushie Slinger.

Team Lost Desert's fans are celebrating today, for the team achieved a near-sweep in yesterday's match against Team Moltara, with three wins and a draw in Make Some Noise.

Team Terror Mountain also ended the day without a loss, winning Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise, and tying with the Mystery Islanders in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown.

Once again, it was pirates versus faeries, and once again the pirates triumphed. The faeries couldn't let them take the complete win, however, and once again they snagged a victory in their specialty game of Slushie Slinger.

Achieving the exact same results was Team Darigan Citadel, who soundly defeated Team Altador in every game but the home team's specialty of Slushie Slinger. It certainly seems Slushie Slinger is a popular focus game that dominates several competitors' play.

The rest of the day's matches ended in more varied results. Team Meridell defeated Team Tyrannia in Yooyuball and, surprisingly, Slushie Slinger, normally the team's specialty game. The Tyrannians took Make Some Noise instead, and the teams tied in Shootout Showdown.

Team Haunted Woods took to the field against Kiko Lake with a fiery determination, but the Kikos gave them a run for their money, winning Shootout Showdown and forcing a draw in Slushie Slinger, while the Haunted Woods easily snatched the other two victories.

And, finally, Team Brightvale won the day against Team Shenkuu, though the Shenkuu players took a stand in the side games, winning Shootout Showdown and forcing a draw in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise.

Well, that's all for today. See you again tomorrow as we settle into the rhythm of the second round!
  • June 19, 2011, 6:06 am NST - Yesterday saw the first matches of the second round of the round robin, and interesting matches they were.

Let's begin with the sweeps. Team Krawk Island is certainly gaining momentum, and perhaps Team Maraqua is losing theirs, for the pirates took an an impressive complete win over the team from under the sea that has been high on the Yooyuball leaderboard for the entire tournament. The other two sweeps are less surprising, given performances so far in the Cup--Team Meridell and Team Terror Mountain each accomplished sweeps over Team Shenkuu and Team Moltara, respectively.

It was revenge for the faeries yesterday, who were unhappy with their Yooyuball draw in the last round's match against Kiko Lake. They fought valiantly, but it seems fate has these two teams interlocked, for again the result was a draw. They also won Slushie Slinger, while the Kikos took Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown.

There were other surprises yesterday: Team Roo Island defeated Team Tyrannia, which was the leader on the standings for a large portion of Round 1, in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown. Despair not, however, for the Tyrannians still took the win in their specialty game of Slushie Slinger, as well as Make Some Noise.

Another surprise was the result of Team Virtupets, also a highly ranked team in this Cup. Their match against Mystery Island yesterday gave extremely mixed results, with a win in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise for Virtupets, a win in Shootout Showdown for Mystery Island, and a draw in Slushie Slinger. Is Virtupets losing their knack? Is Mystery Island ready to contend for the title with the best of them, for all they are currently in 15th place?

The rest of the results were far simpler, with Team Haunted Woods taking all the wins but Slushie Slinger against Team Altador, who took the win once again in their specialty game. The same results were true of the Kreludor-Brightvale match, with Kreludor taking the day and Brightvale taking Slushie Slinger.

Last, but not least, Darigan Citadel accomplished a near-sweep of Team Lost Desert, who avoided the complete loss with only a draw in Slushie Slinger.

Well, that's all for today. The standings are definitely topsy-turvy to begin this round here. It'll be interesting to see which teams have the endurance needed to continue prevailing for the next two weeks.
  • June 18, 2011, 2:31 am NST - Another day of Altador Cup gaming has ended, and the results are in!

Yesterday the Lost Desert managed a sweep against Altador - one of the few teams who have managed to deprive Altador of a Slushie Slinger win. Does this mark the start of a recovery for the desert, or is it too little too late?

Two more sweeps complete a trio from yesterday. The Haunted Woods managed wins against Mystery Island while Meridell was victorious over Moltara.

The Darigan Citadel continued their downwards trend that began mid-robin, but this time they had a more valid excuse - they were facing the tournament's current front runners, Kreludor. The Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger games ended in draws, and the remaining side games were divided evenly between teams - Make Some Noise to Darigan and Shootout Showdown to Kreludor. Although an overall draw might be considered a good result for Darigan, it has allowed higher ranked teams to pull further ahead.

That said, many of those same higher ranked teams faced problems yesterday. Terror Mountain certainly stumbled against Kiko Lake, managing only a single win in Slushie Slinger. The rest of the games went to Kiko Lake, giving them a much needed boost.

Maraqua still walked away from their Brightvale match with an overall win, but it was far from plain sailing. Wins in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise for Brightvale deprived Maraqua of a sweep.

Virtupets faced some problems against second bracket Krawk Island. Virtupets secured a draw in Slushie Slinger, and wins in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise to secure their win, but Krawk Island fought back with Shootout Showdown.

Rounding off the top bracket, Tyrannia too faced problems against Roo Island. Wins in Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger gave Tyrannia the win, but a sweep wasn't on the cards as Roo Island produced wins in both Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown.

Last but not least, one match kept to this season's pattern, the Slushie Slinger upset. Faerieland managed to take the game from Shenkuu, although the mountain team managed wins in all remaining games.

That's all for today. TNT's staff tournament has entered it's third round. Remember to vote and check the results from round 2. Today was the last day of play in the first round robin, so make the most of the second round!
  • June 17, 2011, 6:27 pm NST - Sorry about the late coverage today folks!

Two full sweeps today! Good work to Terror Mountain (who swept Faerieland) and Krawk Island (who swept Roo Island). Today, Terror Mountain takes on the Kikos as Krawk Island takes on Virtupets! Good luck to both teams and their opponents.

Virtupets was handed their second loss today by none other than Team Shenkuu! Did anyone see that coming? Shenkuu's disappointing performance must've made this victory all that much sweeter. However, Yooyuball was all Shenkuu was able to take from Virtupets as they won the rest.

The much anticipated match of the day was Darigan Citadel versus Maraqua! Yooyuball, as well as Shootout Showdown, matches both ended in a draw with Maraqua taking Slushie Slinger and Darigan Citadel winning Making Some Noise. This match was definitely as close as most expected it to be.

Is Meridell losing steam, or is Lost Desert picking themselves up from the ground? While they won against Lost Desert today by winning Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown, they allowed Lost Desert to draw both Yooyuball, the main event, and also Make Some Noise.

Kiko Lake nearly swept Altador yesterday. Slushie Slinger saved Altador yet again. It really seems to be Altador's game this year like it was Tyrannia's several AC's past. Kreludor faced off with Mystery Island, keeping up their Yooyuball streak. Team Kreludor also won Make Some Noise and drew Slushie Slinger. This meant that Mystery Island won Shootout Showdown.

Haunted Woods had no wins today against Tyrannia. They drew both Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown then lost Make Some Noise and Slushie Slinger. The results of the Brightvale versus and Moltara match today was quite interesting. Brightvale won Yooyuball, drew Slushie Slinger then lost Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown to Moltara.

Today's match of Kreludor versus Darigan is bound to be interesting so stay tuned! Marie promises not to deliver late coverage again! (If I can help it...)
  • June 16, 2011, 5:04 pm NST - Not a day of any particular surprises yesterday, but still the odd one in the bunch as always.

Firstly, let's get the obvious out of the way - Kreludor more or less tied with Terror Mountain. Although Terror Mountain gained three wins in all of the side games, Kreludor's win in the higher weighted Yooyuball makes the day a draw. It's not as surprising as some previous years might have been considering Terror Mountain's greater strength this year - but still an upset in my book.

Elsewhere, it was again a day of Slushie Slinger problems for many teams. The Haunted Woods were deprived a sweep by Altador's Slushie Slinger win - it was an identical situation in the Maraqua-Faerieland game, with the overall win going to Maraqua. The pattern then repeated itself with Kiko Lake narrowly missing a sweep thanks to the Moltara Slushie Slinger win, and the Darigan Citadel missing out on a sweep to the Lost Desert, again in Slushie Slinger. It makes you wonder if the scoring for that particular game has somehow been altered this year, doesn't it?

The day's only full sweep went to Virtupets - with Brightvale walking away from the game with nothing. Meridell meanwhile faced difficulties against Roo Island. The Islanders took the Shootout Showdown win and drew Make Some Noise, but the wins in Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger gave Meridell their victory.

There were broadly similar pictures from the other two matches yesterday. Shenkuu took wins in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown while Mystery Island took a win in Slushie Slinger - the Make Some Noise match ended in a draw. Finally, the Tyrannia team managed wins in Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown, but a draw in Make Some Noise and a win in Yooyuball gave Krawk Island the overall win.

Come back tomorrow for more news - and remember to vote in this week's TNT Staff Tournament if you haven't already as voting will soon close!
  • June 15, 2011, 6:06 am NST - We're nearing the end of the first round of play here in the Altador Colosseum, and it's shaping up to be a very interesting Cup indeed!

Yesterday saw three sweeps, each not terribly surprising based on earlier performance in the Cup. These were Virtupets (against Moltara), Haunted Woods (against Brightvale), and Krawk Island (against Shenkuu).

Stadium IV saw the duel of two major contenders--Team Tyrannia and Team Terror Mountain. It's hard to say which team is the better one, for they drew three of the four games, with Terror Mountain inching ahead in the fourth, Slushie Slinger. It's tough to say what will happen to these two, but they're definitely teams to keep your eye on.

Yesterday was a good day under the sea, with a near-sweep for Team Maraqua. They were victorious in the Yooyuball match and the Make Some Noise contest, while they restricted the Roo Islanders to only a draw in Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown.

Over in Stadium III, the different atmosphere of the new Yooyuball struck again as one team, Darigan Citadel, focused their attention on perfecting the new game, while Team Kiko Lake stood aside and easily snatched wins in every side game.

Stadium VII saw the battle of the lower tiers in Team Lost Desert vs. Team Faerieland. Team Lost Desert had an early lead in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown that the faeries fought valiantly but never quite caught up to, while the faeries left the desert team in the dust in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise.

Team Kreludor and Team Meridell were also fairly evenly matched, ending the day with a draw in the main event and splitting wins in the sides. Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown went to Kreludor, while Slushie Slinger went to Meridell.

And last, but certainly not least, Team Altador held their own against Team Mystery Island, taking Slushie Slinger and forcing a draw in Make Some Noise, while the Mystery Islanders took the wins in the two goal-scoring games.

And that's it for today. Good luck to everyone as this round winds to a close!
  • June 14, 2011, 1:38 am NST - A lot of teams will be blaming the delay of 8 hours before play began yesterday for today's results - but we'll never know if that actually made a difference, and the results are what they are.

Most notably yesterday, the Darigan team faced a major upset from the Haunted Woods team - losing in all the three side games and only managing a draw in Yooyuball. Although this hasn't really changed anything for the Woods, Darigan have dropped from yesterday's third position all the way down to seventh. This shows just how close the top two brackets currently are, with one bad day capable of changing everything.

This has bumped Maraqua up to third, and their win against Altador yesterday will only serve to boost their confidence. Altador managed to avoid a full sweep, once more claiming a Slushie Slinger victory - quickly emerging as Altador's specialty for this year.

Elsewhere Tyrannia managed a near sweep against Faerieland, but the Slushie Slinger match was a bitterly fought contest that ultimately ended in a draw.

The other two teams in the top bracket faced bigger difficulties in their matches though. Kreludor, currently ranked first, managed draws in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown against Roo Island, but wins in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise tipped the day in Kreludor's favour.

Meanwhile Virtupets managed a win against Mystery Island with victories in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise, but Mystery Island made a small comeback with a Shootout Showdown win and a draw in Slushie Slinger.

Terror Mountain is currently knocking on the door of the top bracket, and a sweep against Moltara yesterday will only serve to strengthen their position. One position down is Krawk Island, and they had more difficulties against Kiko Lake. The Kiko team took wins in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown, and there was a draw in Slushie Slinger. The Yooyuball win however went to Krawk Island.

The Lost Desert continued their less than impressive season with their match against Shenkuu. Although the desert managed a win in Slushie Slinger and a draw in Shootout Showdown, the Shenkuu team took the Make Some Noise win and the more important Yooyuball match.

Finally, Meridell came out on top in their match against Brightvale. Once again a near sweep was only avoided by Slushie Slinger, where Brightvale managed their only win of the day.

With a full day of play now expected, tune in tomorrow for more results!
  • June 13, 2011, 1:13 am NST - Day 12! The Cup is nearing the end of its first round robin and officially setting the clear front-runners and underdogs.

The biggest surprise of the day goes to Haunted Woods for not giving Terror Mountain a single win. Haunted Woods won Yooyuball as well as Make Some Noise, then drew in the other two events. Judging from each team's progress thus far, this was quite unexpected.

There were three sweeps yesterday. Lost Desert swept Moltara, which is a little surprising due to how poorly Lost Desert has been doing, but perhaps TNT's article was a much-needed rude awakening. Kreludor swept Shenkuu even though they pulled quite an upset against Meridell yesterday, and Krawk Island swept Mystery Island.

A few near sweeps today: Meridell was victorious against Virtupets, winning almost everything except Make Some Noise, which Virtupets won. Roo Island was able to dominate in their match against Altador, but the hosts of this Cup managed to escape with a Slushie Slinger win.

Maraqua won Slushie Slinger and Yooyuball, leaving Kiko Lake with Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown today. Regardless, the fish were still able to squeeze into first tier! It's doubtful that they will slip in the standings any time soon, but we will see as the Cup continues.

Tyrannia didn't stand a chance against Darigan Citadel today. Darigan won both Yooyuball and Make Some Noise, then drew in Shootout Showdown. This meant that Tyrannia was only left a Slushie Slinger win. Tyrannia seems to have a tough schedule ahead; can they hold onto second place?

Ah... Brightvale versus Faerieland. The Faeries were able to throw enough dust in the Brightvalians' eyes to secure a draw in Yooyuball. However, the Brightvalians were still able to claim all the side games.

No matches today are particularly unpredictable, except perhaps Lost Desert versus Shenkuu. So this concludes Day 12th Altador Cup Coverage! Remember everyone: play lots, play hard!
