Altador Cup News and Updates

  • June 29, 2011, 1:33 am NST - The Altador Cup only has 5 days left to make it or break it into each tier before finals! Only the truly strong will prevail.

Alright, today's results! Lost Desert was the only team to be able to sweep today against none other than Haunted Woods! The champions last year's track record this year have been SO sub-par that it warranted TNT to write a not-so-nice article about them. Perhaps they're finally waking up - but is it too late?

Team Altador (who faced Shenkuu) and Team Faerieland (facing Darigan Citadel) both narrowly avoided being swept today by winning the sole game of Slushie Slinger. Their respective opponents won all the other games. Maraqua barely missed a sweep of Moltara, as well. After a hard fought battle, with Maraqua winning every other game, Slushie Slinger came to a draw.

Krawk Island faced Virtupets today. Both teams are strong competitors and clamoring for top tier, every point and win that they can get counts. In the end, Virtupets won Yooyuball, and then some (Make Some Noise... get the half-pun? No...?) to ensure a clear victory. Krawk Island walked away with the consolation prize of wins in Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown.

Early front-runner Tyrannia has really lagged behind and today, they were bested by Kreludor. Team Tyrannia lost Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown but won the other two games.

Terror Mountain has finally won another Yooyuball match since Day 1 against Moltara. Also able to win Shootout Showdown against Kiko Lake, they drew in Make Some Noise and lost Slushie Slinger. Has Terror Mountain finally caught their lucky break with momentum swinging their way, or have their moments of glory come and passed?

Meridell continued their losing streak today against Roo Island. Shootout Showdown ended in a draw, but the Jesters were clearly the winners, snagging Yooyuball and Make Some Noise. The Slushie Slinger win was left to for the Knights to pick up.

Brightvale had a decisive victory over Mystery Island yesterday, able to secure the Slushie Slinger and, most importantly, the Yooyuball win for themselves. The other two side games ended in losses for them, but it's doubtful they will be focusing on those tonight as they rejoice.

Two powerhouse match-ups are in store for you folks today: Krawk Island vs. Kreludor and Meridell vs. Darigan Citadel! Maraqua and Darigan Citadel are just on the outskirts of first tier and would do anything to get into the elusive club. Today, the Maraquans face Terror Mountain, hoping to rack up as many wins as possible to finally make first tier.

This is by far the most exciting part of the Altador Cup, folks! The race is (un)officially ON. Also, a reminder that the Jellyneo Staff Tournament Round 5 Voting starts today! Don't forget to support your team by assembling their team mascot! :) This is Marie out, with a promise that you will definitely not want to miss tomorrow's results.

  • June 28, 2011, 8:12 am NST - Day 27 results are in! Let's visit Marie for today's full coverage.

The only sweep today goes to Kiko Lake for successfully shutting Moltara out from any wins. Virtupets nearly swept Tyrannia today taking everything except Shootout Showdown which was won by the Tyrannians.

Krawk Island was barely able to pull ahead when they faced Darigan Citadel today. In the end, the Pirates were able to win Yooyuball, taking the overall win. However, Darigan Citadel was able to get at least a side game sweep.

The matches of Mystery Island vs. and Kreludor vs. Lost Desert ended in similar results. Mystery Island and Kreludor both won Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown while they lost the other two games to their respective opponents. The former champions seem to have finally found their footing again.

Terror Mountain seems to have lost their footing completely. Much different than the first day of the Altador Cup when they faced Shenkuu (and swept them), this time around, Shenkuu was able to not only win Yooyuball but also Slushie Slinger. The rest of the side games was won by Terror Mountain, who slipped into third tier yesterday.

Brightvale squared off against Altador yesterday and was able to win Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown. Altador won Slushie Slinger, the game that has been favoring them the most this Cup. Make Some Noise ended in a draw.

Faerieland was able to win Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown against Roo Island yesterday. The Jesters won overall, taking the main event of Yooyuball and Make Some Noise.

Team Maraqua almost pummeled Team Meridell with a win in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise. Shootout Showdown ended in a draw, and Slushie Slinger went to the noble knights. Ever since almost sweeping Kreludor, Team Meridell hasn't been able to win another game. Will they be up and at it again soon enough to make it into top tier?

Several matches to watch out for today! Virtupets vs. Krawk Island looks particularly exciting. Stay tuned! :)
  • June 27, 2011, 6:14 am NST - We're sitting at around halfway through the second round as teams continue to line up in their respective tiers and ready themselves for battle in the final round.

The only sweep to report from yesterday is unsurprising--Team Kreludor completely defeated Team Shenkuu in yesterday's match. It is sad to see that Shenkuu, once a powerhouse team in its own right, still remains fallen to the fourth bracket.

It was Battle of the Tier 4 teams yesterday as Team Faerieland took on Team Lost Desert. The desert team fought hard, taking Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown easily toward the beginning of the day. Slushie Slinger was deadlocked until the end of the match and left them in a draw, while the faeries took the day with a hard-fought win in Yooyuball.

Team Roo Island, slightly recovered from their 4th tier jaunt earlier in the season, easily took the day against home team Altador, who still has not had much luck with this year's tournament, despite their home field advantage. They avoided a sweep, however, with a win in their specialty Slushie Slinger.

Team Brightvale, also trying to escape the 4th tier, held their ground yesterday against Moltara, who managed only a Make Some Noise win against the team of wisdom.

The day's sole near-sweep goes to the current first-place team of Meridell. While Mystery Island fought remarkably well in the match yesterday, the skill of the Meridellians was too much, and all they could manage was to force Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown to a draw.

Over in Stadium 4, it was Battle of the Nearly-Top-Tier Teams as Team Maraqua and Team Darigan Citadel continued to jockey for the final position in the top bracket, along with the four teams currently seated there. The results were divided, Darigan taking Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise, while Maraqua took Yooyuball. Shootout Showdown ended in a draw.

In the next stadium over, Team Tyrannia tried to regain its position as a favorite to win the Cup in its match against Krawk Island. They took their traditional specialty of Slushie Slinger and forced a draw in Make Some Noise, but the pirates' skill in throwing yooyus was too much for them in the other two games.

Also fallen from early good repute, Team Terror Mountain hoped for redemption against Team Haunted Woods yesterday. They did force a draw in Yooyuball and thus for the day overall, as well as claim a victory in Shootout Showdown, but they lost Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise.

Last but not least, Team Kiko Lake fought hard against powerhouse Virtupets in yesterday's match and claimed a win in Shootout Showdown and a draw in Slushie Slinger, but in the end the space team took the win with victories in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise.

Well, that's it for today. Don't forget to vote for the next round of the JN Staff Tourney!
  • June 26, 2011, 2:34 am NST - Welcome to another day of thrilling results from the Altador Cup!

First, let's start off with the battle for the second bracket. Yesterday the Haunted Woods managed a weak win against Faerieland, taking wins in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise while Faerieland took Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown. However, performance by other teams has conspired to push the Haunted Woods up into the second bracket. This is due to the Darigan Citadel sweeping Terror Mountain. With Terror Mountain and the Haunted Woods meeting on the field today, that's surely a grudge match in the making.

Darigan's sweep of course pushes them ever closer to re-entering the top bracket, but not close enough. Meridell now hold the top spot thanks to a near sweep against Kreludor, taking wins in Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, and Shootout Showdown. Kreludor took a Make Some Noise win, but with Darigan biting at their heels, are Kreludor faltering?

Virtupets faced less problems against Moltara with a near sweep, but the Moltaran team fought back by forcing a draw in Slushie Slinger. Krawk Island meanwhile saw parts of their play collapse against Brightvale. Wins in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise went to Brightvale, and though Krawk Island managed a Yooyuball win, it was only a draw in Shootout Showdown that tipped the scales in their favour giving them a narrow victory.

A more even game came in the Maraqua-Kiko Lake game, with Maraqua taking the Yooyuball win and Kiko Lake taking wins in all three side games. Maraqua certainly needs to rally itself in order to break into the top bracket. Tyrannia meanwhile, the second bracket's remaining occupant, managed a complete sweep against Mystery Island. A good showing, but not enough to overtake Maraqua in the standings.

You'd almost be fooled into thinking the winner's curse wasn't applying to the Lost Desert today, with their performance against Altador echoing that of so many top ranked teams this year. It was a near sweep, only losing the Slushie Slinger game to the host team.

Finally, we saw Roo Island and Shenkuu meet again. It was Roo Island's day with a near sweep, the somewhat toothless Shenkuu team only managing a draw in Shootout Showdown.

That's all for today, make sure to check back tomorrow!
  • June 25, 2011, 1:14 pm NST - Sorry about the slightly late coverage again, Marie couldn't drag herself out of bed into the Commentator's Box.

The lower-tiered teams ripped up some of the higher-tiered teams yesterday! Starting with the matchup of Brightvale vs. Darigan Citadel. The Citadel won all the games except the one of highest importance - Yooyuball. Pulling off an upset, Brightvale took that win! Team Haunted Woods nearly swept the top-tiered Virtupets by winning every game except for Make Some Noise, which Virtupets was able to snag. Is Team Virtupets losing steam or were they just exhausted after two rather tiring teams the days before?

Terror Mountain suffered the same fate. They drew Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger against Faerieland and won Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown. Not the most impressive performance by a team that just recently made the front page.

Only sweep of the day goes to Kreludor for taking down Team Altador mercilessly. Will Altador continue winning Slushie Slinger or has their luck with that game ended? So many questions that only results can answer!

Moltara came close to being swept again today by Team Meridell. Meridell was able to win everything except for Make Some Noise, which Moltara won. Tyrannia came fairly close to sweeping Kiko Lake as well. Tyrannia took Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger while Kiko Lake won the other games.

Many matches today came to a close finish. Take Roo Island vs. Mystery Island for example. The game of Yooyuball ended in a draw, but Mystery Island was able to win Shootout Showdown and Make Some Noise, taking the overall win. The Slushie Slinger win was slung to the Roos.

Maraqua faced Lost Desert today and was able to come out with a win in Yooyuball and a draw in Slushie Slinger. Lost Desert was able to win the rest. Krawk Island fared slightly better against Team Shenkuu, winning Yooyuball AND Shootout Showdown. Shenkuu was not able to get any wins and had to settle for two draws in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise.

  • June 24, 2011, 4:35 pm NST - Welcome to another edition of Late Night AC Review! :P

Today's main story, and of course the one most have been talking about is the match between Krawk Island and Moltara. Although it was business as usual in the side games with Krawk Island taking all three, Moltara managed a surprise upset with a Yooyuball win. For last year's bottom placed team this is a real achievement!

Kreludor continue their sudden change of fortunes with a difficult match against the Darigan Citadel. A win in Yooyuball secured Kreludor's victory, but Darigan fought hard with wins in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown and a draw in Slushie Slinger.

Altador continued their Slushie Slinger campaign against Virtupets yesterday, though they only managed a draw against the first ranked team. Virtupets meanwhile took all the remaining games.

A surprise turn of events saw Roo Island taking the majority of wins against the Haunted Woods. Yooyuball, Make Some Noise, and Shootout Showdown all went to Roo Island. The Haunted Woods managed a last minute fight back, mustering a single Slushie Slinger win.

The only sweep of the day gave Meridell their much needed padding to keep them in the top bracket. A full set of wins against Faerieland propelled them up to 2nd place, putting them in real contention for the cup.

Maraqua meanwhile, who have been attempting to knock on the door of the first bracket for some time now, faced difficulties against Brightvale. Draws in Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger didn't bode well for either team, but wins in Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown tipped the scales in Maraqua's favour.

In the lower brackets Mystery Island faced Kiko Lake. MI's typical here-today, gone-tomorrow strength flourished and gave the islanders the day's win with Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger under their belts. Kiko Lake fought back though, and took a draw in Make Some Noise and a win in Shootout Showdown.

Elsewhere, Shenkuu faced the Lost Desert. A mixed bag of results, leaning towards Shenkuu with a Yooyuball win and a draw in Shootout Showdown. Make Some Noise and Slushie Slinger meanwhile went to the Lost Desert.

Finally, Tyrannia and Terror Mountain faced each other in a roughly even match. The higher weighted Yooyuball went to Tyrannia while all three side games went to Terror Mountain. Theoretically even stevens, but with three wins to one Terror Mountain can take a moral victory if nothing else.

We'll have another set of interesting results tomorrow - with the recent change in Yooyuball altering the game for yet more players, things are only going to get stranger.
  • June 23, 2011, 6:29 am NST - Over to Zelda in the commentator's box with yesterday's results:

There were three sweeps yesterday, none terribly surprising. Team Maraqua, Team Krawk Island, and Team Darigan Citadel were these three teams, soundly defeating Team Altador, Team Mystery Island, and Team Shenkuu, respectively.

Team Meridell proved once again that it is aiming for gold, winning three out of its four matches against Team Haunted Woods. The Haunted Woods couldn't let them take a sweep, however, and claimed the win in Make Some Noise.

Virtupets vs. Terror Mountain saw the teams focusing on two games each, attempting to chip away at the other's weaknesses. In the end Virtupets took the day with a win in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise, while Terror Mountain left with not-to-shabby wins in Slushie Slinger and Shootout Showdown.

Team Tyrannia's match was interesting, for they faced the Lost Desert in what should have been a very easy match. And it was, but the game that kept them from the sweep was their own specialty--Lost Desert forced a draw in Slushie Slinger.

Team Kreludor also faced an easy match yesterday, claiming wins against Team Moltara in every game but Slushie Slinger, where the small team's focus for the day paid off in a single win.

Roo Island and Kiko Lake held very different focuses in their match yesterday. Roo Island took to the Yooyuball field like a true powerhouse team, while Kiko Lake went for a side-sweep.

Brightvale's match against Faerieland was a close one, with only one game not ending in a draw--Make Some Noise.

Well, that's it for today. Don't forget to see how we did and vote for round 2! And don't forget that Round 3 guessing for TNT's tournament closes tomorrow night!
  • June 22, 2011, 1:37 am NST - Another day of interesting Altador Cup results are in!

Let's begin with Virtupets-Brightvale. An odd match, by all accounts, with Brightvale managing a Yooyuball win. Virtupets took all three remaining matches, but this is certainly a dent for the current 1st place team to effectively draw with a 4th bracket team.

Maraqua's attempted to fight their way back into the 1st bracket were hampered by Tyrannia yesterday. Maraqua managed wins in both Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, but Tyrannia forced a draw in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise.

In what may turn out to be practice for the bottom bracket finals match, Moltara emerged victorious over Altador. Wins in both Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown secured the win, though Altador took the remaining two games.

Elsewhere, Shenkuu faced difficulties from Faerieland. Each team took two wins, but Shenkuu's abilities in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise made them the overall winners. A slightly more evenly matched battle came from the Roo Island-Lost Desert match. Roo Island took the win with Yooyuball and Make Some Noise victories, but a draw in Shootout Showdown and a win in Slushie Slinger was not enough to save the Lost Desert.

Kreludor continued to face mid-season problems yesterday, this time against their old allies, the Haunted Woods. Kreludor still took the overall win, with wins in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown, but Kreludor really need a couple of sweeps if they want to reclaim their position at the top of the pack.

Meridell meanwhile are barely clinging on to 4th position, and today's results hardly help matters. A win in Yooyuball and a draw in Slushie Slinger gave them the overall win for the day, but every match counts in such a close bracket, and Terror Mountain took both Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown.

The Darigan Citadel meanwhile faced minor difficulties from Mystery Island after a sudden downturn in their play. The Citadel took all the side game wins, but to everyone's surprise Mystery Island managed a draw in Yooyuball.

Finally, Krawk Island managed a near sweep against Kiko Lake. The Lakers managed a last minute comeback though and claimed the Shootout Showdown win.

Make sure to check back tomorrow for more results, and don't forget to vote in the JN staff tournament!
