  • July 10, 2008, 11:57 am NST - Almost done! Just seven more matches left! :O

To start off, congrats goes to Maraqua, Kreludor, Mystery Island, Roo Island and the Lost Desert for pulling sweeps in yesterday's matches. That leaves three matches requiring discussion.

For the second time during the Cup, Meridell and the Darigan Citadel have gone head to head. The Citadel prevailed over Meridell in both Yooyuball and Make Some Noise, but Meridell still kept their dignity, achieving a win in Slushie Slinger. We caught up with Layton Vickles, captain and left forward for Team Darigan, and asked him what he thought about DC's performance this year: "Well, it's been a rough year after winning the Cup last year. It seems as if every team we play has a vengeance for wanting to defeat us, and after playing like that day after day, you get a bit tired out. We'll pull through, though, and hopefully our individual performance during the Cup will earn us some MVP spots at the end. I think I've played well enough that I deserve to have another action figure made in my honor!"

Next, we turn to the Krawk Island vs. Shenkuu match. Unfortunately for the pirates, Shenkuu has toughened up since the two teams met in the first round robin. Instead of pulling a sweep like last time, Krawk Island only managed two draws against Shenkuu in YYB and MSN, and luckily pulled a win in SS. The Krawk Islanders aren't taking it too badly, though. They still have a considerable lead over Roo Island.

Last but not least, we have the Haunted Woods vs. Tyrannia. As expected, Tyrannia took their win in Slushie Slinger, but had two losses in YYB and MSN. That's good news, however, for the Haunted Woods, who is one of many teams vying for a spot in the top four.

As always, head on over to our Scores and Rankings page for an update on the placing of each team.

Also, don't forget to vote every two days in our AC Staff Tourney. Only three rounds remain! Go guess now!
  • July 9, 2008, 2:26 pm NST - Sorry for the lateness again! We've been pretty busy with other projects these past couple of days. :(

Anywho, congrats goes out to Krawk Island, Roo Island, and Tyrannia, the only three teams able to pull sweeps of their opponents! This is great for them, but bad for us, since that means a long scores update post. :P

The first match we'll discuss is Darigan Citadel vs. Kreludor. It was an extremely fierce battle of two powerful teams, but the Kreludans came out on top of the heap with two wins in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise, and a tie in Yooyuball. This is definitely good news for team Kreludor, who has been in a battle for the top four ever since the first match of the Cup.

Maraqua vs. Brightvale was pretty uneventful, apart from the draw that Brightvale managed in Make Some Noise. Brightvale has shown consistency in being one of the lowest ranked teams this year, only second to Faerieland.

Shenkuu and Meridell had an exciting day, with draws in YYB and SS, but a win to Shenkuu in MSN. Like Kreludor, both of these teams are able contenders for the top four, and either of the three would not surprise Neopia by getting there.

Our next game is MI vs. LD, two more equally matched teams. A draw was issued in YYB, but each team managed a win in the other two events. Unfortunately for LD, their win in MSN is worth the least of the other two events.

Last but not least, kudos goes out to Virtupets for their win in YYB against Altador! They're having quite a decent showing this year, and as of right now are ranked in the third finals bracket, meaning they could reach all the way up to 9th in the final ranking. Altador fought back, however, taking a win in MSN, and upsetting enough of Virtupets' slushies to take a draw in SS.

As always, head on over to our Scores and Rankings page for an update on the placing of each team.

Also, don't forget to vote every two days in our AC Staff Tourney. Only three rounds remain! Go guess now!
  • July 8, 2008, 11:11 am NST - Yesterday was... forgive me, actually quite interesting.

No team except for Krawk Island managed to pull off a sweep, so total kudos to them!

Teams Maraqua, Shenkuu and Terror Mountain put up a great effort in Yooyuball, managing to tie their opponents, teams Darigan Citadel, Kreludor, and Altador, but forgot about Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise, which are worth roughly half a Yooyuball win on our New Formula. When we asked Shenkuu Goalkeeper, Xana DiLanche, about this, she declined to comment, saying nothing more than that they forgot about the side games.

Congratulations to Teams Lost Desert, Meridell and Virtupets for getting the Yooyuball win against their opponents -- this win moved Team Meridell up one rank, with Teams Lost Desert and Virtupets remaining at their previous rank, 3rd Place and 13th Place respectively. (It appears as if Team Virtupets is suffering from the forgetfulness bug also... We'll keep an eye out for that when today's games are over!)

Overall, no big movement in the standings. Shenkuu traded spots with Kreludor, moving down one to 7th Place and Meridell moved up one, from 5th to 4th, now allowing them to play for 1st Place.

Today's big match to watch is the one between Team Mystery Island and Team Lost Desert -- with only two points between them in the standings, Mystery Island could get to 4th Place (and have a chance at the cup) quickly!

Remember that you can check out our Scores and Standings, now with added functionality so you can see both new formula and old formula calculations!

  • July 7, 2008, 1:44 pm NST - Oh, but there's one more thing.

    One More Thing...

We know you like to see our Predicted Standings and Scores. And we know you like to look at that page obsessively to see where your team is at.

Since the Altador Cup began, we have been working hard to find a good formula for this year's Altador Cup. And we believe we have found it, but we just don't know if it's the right one. However, we do know that the old formula for last year's Altador Cup worked. About ten days ago, I started playing around with my formulas, seeing how much a team's standings changed between our new formula and the old formula. The results were... quite interesting. Teams were able to jump up and down by as many as five places, and margins between two teams were often as close as 0.01 of a point.

This is why we have added a new feature -- the ability to see our Predicted Scores and Standings using two different formulas! Everything on the page works the same way it did before this new feature - the section links, the day links, everything.

All you need to do to flip between the new formula and the old formula is to hit the link that says See Old/New Formula. So what are you doing, just sitting here reading this post? Go try it!

Oh, and in case you were wondering, this feature works best with two tabs open, one with the new formula and one with the old. :P
  • July 7, 2008, 10:54 am NST - EDIT: All games are loading now!

Yes, if your Altador Cup Games are not loading right now, don't worry -- It's not only you. Basically everyone who didn't have a game up before this started can't play Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger or Make Some Noise. :P

Just time for my scheduled cleaning, 'tis all!
Oh, AND I get to stop up two more games too! :)

Stay tuned -- We'll be back with updates shortly!

EDIT: Eek, please do not go mass-filing Bug Reports. :P I am 99.9% sure that TNT already knows about it, with the Altador Cup being such a big event and all. Less bug reports for them to close = More time to fix their booboo :P

  • July 7, 2008, 9:34 am NST - Honestly, we need a better word than "interesting". Perhaps... Coldplay! Yes, yesterday's games were very Coldplay. ;)

Anyways, five teams were able to pull sweeps on their opponents yesterday; the sweeps that teams Krawk Island, Lost Desert, Roo Island and Tyrannia had pulled allowed them to remain in their current ranking spot, while team Shenkuu moved up one spot from 7th Place to 6th Place, pushing team Kreludor down one spot.

The game between Darigan Citadel and Mystery Island ended with a Yooyuball and Make Some Noise win for Darigan and a tie for both teams in Slushie Slinger. Darigan's win in this round, coupled with Haunted Woods' loss against Roo Island, allowed Team Darigan to move up one rank, from 9th Place to 8th Place.

Now, with 10 more days left in the Altador Cup, you may be asking, "Can my team still make it to the first bracket to play for 1st Place?" We've done the math, and unfortunately, teams Altador, Brightvale and Faerieland are not going to be able to make it to the 1st Bracket. When we broke this news to Faerieland team captain, Kakoni Worrill, he said this: "You know, we played hard, we fought hard, and despite the fact that we are not able to get first place now, I am very proud of our team for at least making it here and fighting for first."

You should keep an eye out for the game between Tyrannia and Lost Desert. Team Tyrannia's itching to get into the second bracket!

Remember, you can always check out our Scores and Rankings for more information on where your team is currently at as well as how close you are to another rank! (So play hard, sling hard, and make as much noise as you can!) And remember this: "Just because I'm losing, doesn't mean I'm lost!"
  • July 6, 2008, 10:38 am NST - Another day, another interesting set of results!

In yesterday's matches, an interesting game to watch was Meridell vs. Kreludor. When the dust settled, both had come out with draws across the board. Both teams fought very hard, and both are able contenders in this year's Cup. In fact, both teams have at one point been in the top four, a place where many teams have been moving in and out of. (And there's still plenty of time for both to move back in.)

After Roo Island and Shenkuu's match in the first round robin, things were not looking that great for Team Shenkuu. However, yesterday's matches were quite the contrary! Their Yooyuball game was probably the most exciting of the day. Roo Island played hard, but Shenkuu still managed to tie the Rooligans. Slushie Slinger was more in favor of Roo Island, though, with a win being awarded to them. The last event, Make Some Noise went to Shenkuu, however, to make it an even number of wins between the two teams.

And last but not least, we come to Faerieland vs. Altador. Team Faerieland had a good show in their match. They have taken yet another win in Yooyuball, the most valuable event. However, Team Altador wasn't about to let the lowest ranked team have their full 15 minutes of glory. Instead, Altador played fiercely in the two side events, and ended up with wins in both SS and MSN. Hats off to the Faeries, though, for their second win in YYB!

Now, for the sweeps... The Darigan Citadel, Tyrannia, the Lost Desert, Mystery Island and Krawk Island all performed at their top levels yesterday, and won all three games against their opponents.

As always, head on over to our Scores and Rankings page for an update on the placing of each team. And don't forget, these posts will only be posted the AC Coverage section during the week, but during weekends, we'll post them on the main site as well. :)

Also, don't forget to vote every two days in our AC Staff Tourney. The first five rounds have finished... only five more to go! It's been a rough first ten days, but the staffers have persevered, and they're still going strong. So what are you waiting for? Go guess now!
  • July 5, 2008, 12:46 pm NST - Hope all of our US visitors had a happy Independence Day. :)

Now, onto the scores update! Teams Tyrannia and Maraqua had a clash in yesterday's games. Maraqua was able to maintain a win in Yooyuball, but Tyrannia was fierce in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise, taking a win in both. Slowly but surely, Tyrannia is inching its way up through the rankings with all of their little wins here and there...

Roo Island and the Darigan Citadel also went up against each other yesterday. As expected, Roo Island took wins in YYB and MSN, but drew with the Draconians in SS.

Team Shenkuu also had an interesting match with the Lost Desert. Both had draws in YYB and SS, but Shenkuu took the win in MSN, the game worth least in the tournament. As you might have noticed, Shenkuu has been on an upswing as of late. We caught up with Shenkuu's right defender, Larcy Phu, and asked him about their new found strength. "We definitely suffered in the first round robin portion of this year's Altador Cup. But looking back on our losing record, we were only more inspired to quadruple our efforts during the second half and try to propel ourselves out of the lower ranks, and back into the top four where we belong. We still have a ways to go, but there's plenty of game play left. So watch out for Shenkuu!"

The rest of the matches all had commendable sweeps by the winners: Krawk Island, Terror Mountain, Meridell, the Haunted Woods, and Mystery Island.

As always, head on over to our Scores and Rankings page for an update on the placing of each team. And don't forget, these posts will only be posted the AC Coverage section during the week, but during weekends, we'll post them on the main site as well. :)
  • July 4, 2008, 9:46 am NST - Welcome to another day of AC results! (And this time, they're not late! :P)

There's a lot to talk about today, because only Shenkuu, the Haunted Woods, and Roo Island pulled sweeps of their opponents.

As for the other five matches, let's begin with MI vs. Maraqua. MI has been holding steady the past couple of days in 5th place, so it's rather surprising that they were upset by Maraqua, the 10th place team. Both had draws in YYB and SS, but the Islanders prevailed in MSN, effectively out yelling their opponents.

Terror Mountain also had a good showing, rising above Virtupets in both YYB and MSN. Virtupets, however, was able to steal their own win in SS, even after one of their robot teammates spilled an entire slushie onto his main circuit board, sitting them out for the rest of the match.

The Darigan Citadel and Lost Desert was also a big "clash of the titans" game, ending in ties in YYB and SS, but a win being awarded to the LD in MSN. Definitely a surprise since DC has been proving to be less than first place material during previous rounds.

Meridell and Krawk Island also had a tense round yesterday. The two powerhouse teams were able to draw in YYB, but KI took two wins in MSN and SS, effectively defeating Meridell for round 17.

Last but not least, we have Tyrannia vs. Kreludor. Kreludor was the favored team going in, but Tyrannia reared its ugly, prehistoric head and came crashing down on the futuristic moon pets. The Tyrannians earned wins in both SS and MSN, but allowed Kreludor to take their win in YYB. Tyrannia is definitely proving to be a powerhouse upsetter this year. Their concentrated efforts on the side games are upsetting even the top teams such as Krawk Island and Roo Island.

As always, head on over to our Scores and Rankings page for an update on the placing of each team.
  • July 3, 2008, 12:15 am NST - Another day, another set of sweeps!

Teams Darigan Citadel, Krawk Island, Lost Desert, Maraqua, Roo Island, Shenkuu all managed to pull off sweeps against their opponents! (Well, that doesn't leave much to talk about, eh? :P)

Team Meridell put up a tough fight against Team Tyrannia, managing to beat Tyrannia at Yooyuball and tieing with Tyrannia at Slushie Slinger. Despite the appearance that Tyrannia and Meridell have drawn this round, rank-wise, it isn't so. You see, Yooyuball is worth one full point, while Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise are worth fractions of a point. Therefore, a victory in Yooyuball would mean that you have essentially "won" the round. The Captain of Team Tyrannia, Loryche, was saddened when she heard this news, essentially halting all celebrations that had begun to take place back in the Team Tyrannia's Altador Colosseum Locker Room. (Of course, ice cream heals most wounds. )

Of course, when Team Kreludor heard this news, they were ecstatic as this meant that they had defeated Team Mystery Island, who came in 6th Place last year. Team Captain, Derlyn Fonnet, had this to say: "Well, despite our setback last year with our gravity controls on our practice field, we were able to come back strong this year, which is really all that matters. We're definitely doing much better this year than we would have last year if we decided to risk it and play in the Cup. I am quite pleased with our performance, allowing us to reach 4th Place from our previous 7th Place six days ago."

There are a few games to watch out for today, the game between Meridell and Krawk Island, Darigan Citadel and Lost Desert, and between Maraqua and Mystery Island. The results will be, for a lack of better words, very interesting.

You can head on over to our Scores and Rankings page for a full set of... well, scores and current predicted rankings using the new formula! (Oh, and we've updated our Rank Tool with higher minimum scores! Hopefully, this should help all of you get the avatar and reach the All Star rank!)
